Blueprint Mural in Portland

Browsing Moillusions history articles for a while made me realise we haven’t had that many #murals lately. Not being lazy, I started crawling my repository for something cool that could fill the gap, when this magnificent building appeared right in front of me – the photo depicts a mural of a blueprint, painted on a side of a building that used to be a furnishing store. I really liked it. If you look closely, you’ll notice how the second window from the right (2nd floor) is partially obstructed to maintain the illusion. Not sure if this still exists, but I bet our viewers from Portland can share some insight about the building today. It stands somewhere at the corner of Free and Center Streets, if I did my research right.

Agenda 21 – 8 Sheriffs Stand Up for the Constitution

This great story was covered in the Orange County Register on October 28, 2011  Rural rebellion brewing  : Livelihoods in far-north California are under attack from federal regulators and environmentalists.

Sacramento is Government Central, a land of overly pensioned bureaucrats and restaurant discounts for state workers. But way up in the North State, one finds a small but hard-edged rural populace that views state and federal officials as the main obstacles to their quality of life.

Their latest battle is to stop destruction of four hydroelectric dams along the Klamath River – an action driven by environmentalists and the Obama administration. Most locals say the dam-busting will undermine their property rights and ruin the local farming and ranch economy, which is all that’s left since environmental regulators destroyed the logging and mining industries.

Tea Party groups in northern California and southern Oregon invited their County Sheriffs to informational meetings and, true Americans all, the battle is on!

Don’t let these videos  get buried in the Youtube graveyard… pass them on!

Canby school board to vote on birth control proposal

CANBY, Ore. – The Canby school board is set to vote on whether its high school health clinic can offer birth control to students.  The proposal could mean some girls could get birth control pills or other forms of contraception without their parents knowing about it.

Canby High School junior Hunter Mead is a Youth Advisory Board member advocating for the county-run health clinic on campus to expand its services by prescribing and issuing the following types of contraception:

•    Birth control pills
•    Ortho Evra patches
•    Depo Provera shots
•    Nuva rings

This is giving students the tools to build more secure futures for themselves,” said Mead. The Canby proposal does not include condoms or the morning-after pill.

According to Oregon law, birth control can be offered to students who are at least 15 years old without a parent’s consent or notification.  Oregon and Washington are among 7 states in the U.S. that do not require parental notification.

Not every student at Canby High School supports the idea, even if it reduces the number of pregnancies.  “It’s kind of their own fault too, you bring it on yourself” said student Tanner Jaeckel.

An online community survey conducted by the Canby School District shows 58 percent of voters want the school’s teen pregnancy policies left alone.  The school board meets Thursday night to vote on the proposal.

This is just another part of the Communist Goals for America as Eowyn wrote about earlier this month.  Get control of the children and discredit the family as an institution.

I would argue with Hunter Mead that there are much better ways to ” give students the tools to build more secure futures for themselves”.  Number one would be to allow the parents the responsibility to raise and teach their children the tools they believe are best for their own children.

Secondly, why should the state – or any government agency – be allowed to disperse medications that can adversely affect a teenager’s health?  A teenager is not fully able to comprehend the consequences of these medical side effects.  How is that going to produce a “secure future” for them?

  • Side effects of Nuva ring: The most common adverse events reported by 5 to 14% of the 2501 women who used Nuva Ring in five clinical trials were: vaginitis (14.1%), headache (9.8%), upper respiratory tract infection (8.0%), leukorrhea (5.8%), sinusitis (5.7%), nausea (5.2%), and weight gain (4.9%).
  • Side effects of Depo Provera: Can affect menstrual bleeding. After a year of use, 55% of women experience amenorrhoea; after 2 years, the rate rises to 68%. In the first months of use “irregular or unpredictable bleeding or spotting, or rarely, heavy or continuous bleeding” was reported.  Long-term studies of users of Depo Provera have found slight or no increased overall risk of breast cancer. However, the study population did show a slightly increased risk of breast cancer in recent users (Depo use in the last four years) under age 35, similar to that seen with the use of combined oral contraceptive pills.
  • Side effects of Ortho Evra: The most frequent adverse events reported while using the Ortho Evra patch were: breast discomfort, engorgement or pain (22%), headache (21%), application site reaction (17%), nausea (17%), upper respiratory tract infection (10%), menstrual cramps (10%), and abdominal pain (9%).

I just have to scratch my head wondering why the parents weren’t more vocal when these laws were put into place by our government officials.

Oregon Court of Appeals rejects university system’s ban on guns on campus

Even in flaming liberal Oregon they understand the Constitution…

From Oregon Live: Students and faculty with permits will be allowed to carry concealed guns on Oregon’s seven public university campuses – at least for now – as the result of a court ruling Wednesday.

A three-judge panel of the Oregon Court of Appeals said that an Oregon University System ban on guns exceeds its authority and is invalid. That means people with permits can pack concealed guns, said Di Saunders, spokeswoman for the university system.  “We don’t have the authority to kick them off campus unless they show the weapons,” she said.

But anyone brandishing a gun on campus would be approached immediately by security, she said.   Kevin Starrett,  executive director of the Oregon Firearms Educational Foundation that filed the suit challenging the gun ban, said as a practical matter the ruling does not change much.

“There are students and staff and visitors carrying guns on every campus of every college in this state every day,” said Starrett, whose nonprofit group fights for Second Amendment constitutional rights. “My interest is having people who have power over other people conform to the same rules that everyone else is expected to conform to and not use their bureaucratic position as a way to harass, intimidate and humiliate people who are doing nothing wrong.”

University officials have not decided whether they will appeal the decision, seek new legislation or take other action, but they will be looking for a way to ban all guns from campus, even those carried by people with permits, Saunders said. One possible option would be to require students to sign a statement agreeing not to carry a gun before allowing them to enter classroom buildings, sports events or their dormitories, she said.

University of Oregon students will urge the university system to appeal what they see as a “flawed” and “dangerous decision,” said Ben Eckstein, 21,  a senior and student body president.   “Students feel our college campus should be a place where we can learn safely, engage safely,” he said. “When anybody brings a lethal weapon on campus, it threatens our ability to learn safely.”

The lawsuit grew out of a controversy in early 2009 over Western Oregon University’s suspension of a student for packing a handgun, even though he had a permit. The court ruled that while the State Board of Higher Education has authority to control and manage its property and to enact administrative rules, it cannot override a state law that says only the Legislature can regulate the use, sale and possession of firearms.

The university system will be looking for other ways to keep guns off campus, Saunders said. “This does not erase all the safety protections we have on campus,” she said. “It invalidates one Oregon administrative rule, but it doesn’t invalidate our mission to keep students safe.”

Do they not remember the incident at Columbine?  Do they really believe that Dylan and Eric would have abided by this rule?  Or that Seung-Hui would not have brought a gun to Virginia Tech, killing 32 people before he committed suicide?

“When anybody brings a lethal weapon on campus, it threatens our ability to learn safely.”  How exactly does a law-abiding, gun-carrying owner threaten their ability to learn safely?

And as for student body president Ben - claiming that a “lethal weapon” deters them from “learning safely” - how many other lethal weapons are on campuses that they don’t ban? Are there knives and forks in the cafeterias? Torches in the chemistry classrooms?  Are there no sharp instruments used in biology classes? And are there no sharp instruments used at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital on the Oregon State University campus?

These anti-Second Amendment folks need to take a college course on the U.S. Constitution.

Gotta love Oregon.

GOOD, from Bend , Oregon

A policeman had a perfect
spot to watch for speeders, but wasn’t getting
many.
Then he discovered the problem–a 12-year-old boy was standing up the road
with a hand-painted
sign, which read ‘RADAR TRAP AHEAD.’
The officer also found the boy had an
accomplice who was down the road
with a sign reading
‘TIPS’ and a bucket
full of money. (And we used to just sell lemonade!)

BETTER, from Pendleton , Oregon

A motorist was mailed a picture of his car
speeding through an automated
radar post in in Pendleton , Oregon.
A $40
speeding ticket was included. Being cute, he sent the police
department a
picture of $40.
The police responded with another mailed photo of handcuffs.

BEST, from Eugene , Oregon

A young woman was pulled over for speeding.
An Oregon
State Trooper walked to her car window, flipping open his
ticket
book.
She said, “I bet you are going to sell me a ticket to the State

Trooper’s Ball.”
He replied, “Oregon State Troopers don’t have
balls.”
There was a moment of silence. He then closed his book, tipped his
hat,
got back in his patrol car and left.

Lascivious Crazy Democrat Congressman Wu Resigns

It took sex with an underage teenage girl to finally get rid of Oregon Democrat Congressman David Wu.

I wrote about Wu in my post of February 21, “Oregon Dems Reëlected Mentally Ill Congressman,” about how in blue-state Oregon, Democrats will vote even for a looney-bin so long as he has a (D) after his name — and America be damned. Wu was reëlected to a 7th term in the House despite the fact that:

  • His aides and staffers were so troubled by Wu’s mental illness that, 3 days before the election, they staged an intervention, demanding he admit himself into a psychiatric hospital — a demand Wu rejected.
  • His campaign virtually shut down in the last days before November 2. Wu did not even appear in person but relied on canned appeals on Facebook.
  • Neither Wu’s campaign staff nor the media told voters about their grave concerns about the Congressman’s psychological state, thereby demonstrating their priorities.

On March 16, Fellowship of Minds’ DCG reported that Wu had crashed his car into a parked car on a residential street, and that eye witnesses said he smelled of alcohol and acted “impaired.”

Still, neither Oregon’s voters nor Wu’s fellow Democrats in Congress did anything.

Wu e-mailed his staffers this pic of himself dressed in a tiger suit for Halloween.

Then news came last week, that 56-year-old Wu has been accused of an “unwanted sexual encounter” sometime last Thanksgiving with the teenage daughter of a longtime friend and donor. The Oregonian reported that Wu “acknowledged a sexual encounter to his senior aides but insisted it was consensual”.

Wu defiantly told Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (Calif.) and other top House Democrats throughout the weekend and into Monday that he was not leaving office, despite resignation calls from Oregon Democrats. But the pressure finally got to him. This morning, America’s first Congressman of Chinese ethnicity announced he was stepping down “to protect his family” while he responds to “these very serious allegations.”

Moral of story:

Liberalism really is a mental disease, but if being mentally ill were sufficient to get rid of libs, we wouldn’t still have so many of them in Congress.

Energy Independence for America: Solar Highways

This is a great example of thinking outside of the box: Solar powered highways!

H/t my dear friend Lisa.

A solar roadway is a road surface that generates electricity by solar photovoltaics. One current proposal is for 12 ft x 12 ft solar panels that can be driven on, which eventually will replace highways, roads, parking lots, driveways, and sidewalks. It is claimed that doing so across the United States could generate three times as much electricity as is needed to power the country and almost enough to power the world.

Solar Roadways, run by Scott and Julie Brusaw in Idaho, has been awarded a $100,000 Small Business Innovation Research research by the US Department of Transportation to develop Solar Road Panels prototypes. [Source: Wikipedia]

Oregon has built America’s first solar highway although the power is generated from solar panels installed along the highway instead of embedded in the road itself:

Thinking outside of the box is called “lateral thinking.” Want to see how well you think outside of the box? Take this quiz. ;)

The Janitor, the Rockefellers & the 40 Year Plan

Once upon a time, in the state of Oregon there was a farmer and part-time janitor named Joe Spenner.  He was a property owner who was concerned about the direction government was taking the country.   It was the late 1960s and elected officials from multiple jurisdictions started banding together and appointing committees to regulate people and landRegional Government by unelected committees, blue ribbon panels and stakeholders.    Continue reading
