Biden: ‘The President Is Already Lining Up Some Additional Executive Actions’ for Guns

bidenlaugh-150x150Joe Biden says the president of the United States is preparing to take “executive actions” to deal with guns.

BuzzFeed reports:

Vice President Biden told White House allies in the gun control fight Thursday that President Obama will be announcing new executive actions on gun violence in the days after the Senate voted down a gun violence bill.

On a conference call with “stakeholders,” Biden told gun control advocates that the fight is not over and that eventual action on gun control will come. Press were not invited to the conference call; a participant provided BuzzFeed with access.

“Look I know you’re going to say that I’m just being an optimist and I’m trying to put a good face on this. But you know I’ve been around here a long time and we’ve already done, because of you, some really good things,” Biden said. “Number one, the president is already lining up some additional executive actions he’s going to be taking later this week.”

Wants your complete cooperation. After the Newtown shootings, Obama took a number of executive actions to expand research into gun violence and other areas favored by the gun control community. He took the actions without Congressional approval, leading to outrage by some conservatives.

Gun control measures failed in the Democratic-controlled Senate earlier this week.

Gallup: Only 4% of Americans Think Gun Control is an Important Problem

i’m thinking it’s the economy stupid. while washington wastes time with this, people worry about jobs.

——————————————————————————————-

By Michael James

(CNSNews.com) – Only 4 percent of Americans think guns and gun control are an important problem facing the country, according to Gallup, and far more Americans are concerned about the economy, unemployment and the federal debt.

In its poll from Apr. 4-7,  Gallup surveyed 1,005 adults by telephone and asked, “What do you think is the most important problem facing the country today?”

Respondents answered in the following order:

Economy in general                                      24%

Unemployment/Jobs                                     18%

Dissatisfaction with Government                16%

Federal budget deficit/Federal debt             11%

Healthcare                                                     6%

Ethical/Moral/Family decline                            5%

Immigration/Illegal aliens                                4%

Education                                                       4%

Guns/Gun control                                            4%

Situation with North Korea                              4%

Lack of Money                                                  3%

Welfare                                                            2%

Lack of respect for each other                         2%

Poverty/Hunger/Homelessness                        2%

Foreign aid/Focus overseas                              2%

Taxes                                                                 2%

Despite the Obama administration’s strong push for more gun control legislation, few Americans are concerned about the issue.

As Gallup reports, “Few Americans mention guns or immigration as the most important problems facing the nation today, despite the current attention lawmakers in Washington are giving to these issues. The economy still dominates as the top concern, followed by jobs and dissatisfaction with the general way in which Congress and the government work.”

These data “underscore the prominence of economic issues in Americans’ minds,” said Gallup.

Democratic Strategist’s Shocking Claim: Women Don’t Need Guns For Self-Defense, Just Tell Men ‘Not To Rape Women’

Warning Warning Warning. Have duct tape ready as your head will explode.

——————————  ~  Steve ~  ————————————–

Appearing on Fox News Tuesday night, Democratic Strategist Zerlina Maxwell argued that preventing rape should start by simply “telling men not to rape women.” She was arguing against women using guns as a means of self-defense when she made the questionable remarks.

Host Sean Hannity began by slamming the “ignorant politicians” in Colorado for trying to remove a woman’s right to use a firearm to defend herself against an attacker via gun control legislation.
“I don’t think that we should be telling women anything,” Maxwell said. “I think we should be telling men not to rape women and start the conversation there.
“Criminals are not going to listen to that,” Hannity interjected.
“You are talking about it as if there is some faceless, nameless criminal, when a lot of times it is someone that you know and trust,” Maxwell replied.
Hannity pointed out that “evil exists in the world” and women need to know that these situations unfortunately occur.
We can prevent rape by telling men not to commit it,” Maxwell said, repeating the same bizarre claim.
Instead, Maxwell, who is a rape survivor herself, said she wants women to “not be in this situation.” She added that if you

“train”  men not to be rapists, we can prevent rape.

“If firearms were the answer, then the military would be the safest place for women and it’s not,” she said.”

Sandy Hook Father: You’ll Have to Take My Guns From My Cold Dead Hands!

I Like this Guy. He’s about the only thing in this whole mess that is genuine.    th_clapping

——————————————~ Steve~  ———————————

video of a father, Bill Stevens, whose daughter attended Sandy Hook Elementary school, scene of the mass shooting in December, is making its rounds today of his testimony against gun control at a Working Group Public Hearing at the Connecticut State Capitol on gun violence prevention.

Although his daughter was not harmed in the shooting, his daughter’s friend’s little sister was a victim.

In his testimony, he was very clear on his stance against going after legal gun owners and that no one will take his freedom away to protect his daughter.

Stevens told the panel that he is not there to cite statistics, lives saved by a gun or the economic impact. He was there to remind those people about the U.S. Constitution and the 2nd Amendment, the Constitution of the State of Connecticut in regards to self-defense.

How ironic the same man who shoved assault weapons into the hands of Mexican drug cartels is now planning to disarm honest American citizens.

By Megan R. Wilson - 01/25/13 12:40 PM ET

The Justice Department is taking the first steps toward carrying out President Obama’s executive actions on gun control.

Attorney General Eric Holder on Friday released three proposals to strengthen the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS), which was one of the 23 actions ordered by Obama last week to tackle gun violence.

The proposed regulations would give local law-enforcement agencies access to the gun-sale database that is maintained by the FBI. The rules would also preserve records of denied weapons sales indefinitely.

The Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act already requires federal background checks for gun purchases, but not every firearm sale is covered under the law.

Currently, law enforcement agencies cannot perform a NICS check when transferring, returning or selling weapons that have been confiscated, seized or recovered. The new rules would change that, allowing officials to perform a background check on people who receive those weapons to ensure that they are permitted to own a gun.

Why a Democrat Public Defender is for gun rights

Jay Gaskill is a licensed attorney who retired from 10 years as Public Defender of Alameda County in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Gaskill is also a registered Democrat who’s my friend and among a handful of people whom I consider the smartest I’ve met. I am grateful for his permission to republish this essay.

Those still in the grip of the “use a gun, go to your room” criminal justice model are puzzled why so many unenlightened Americans cling to their firearms and churches when civilized people are beyond all that.  For these naïve minds, crime is a sort of flu, and guns operate as the disease vector, the medieval plague rats, if you will, of the modern urban era. And morality is what nice people do to gain approval and advancement among other nice people in a nice world that would by almost perfect if there weren’t so darn many firearms in private hands.

This will not be some armchair Op Ed by an academic or drawing room criminologist who “has taken a lot of classes.”

“My three decade career (as a public defender of Alameda County, based in Oakland, CA) ended in a final decade as the boss, when I served as the head Public Defender for that county, supervising 140 lawyers and professional investigators, reporting to country bureaucrats and five elected officials.  Over that period, I estimate that I had conducted considerably more than 14,000 confidential, in-depth encounters with crooks of all ages. I spent enough time behind bars (excluding nights, of course) to serve a term for car theft.  No sociologist or criminologist has been able replicate that experience.  No typical public defender was paying attention in quite the same way that I was, because I was a student of the human condition. What a field study!”

{Excerpt from my essay/speech, A journey Inside the Criminal Mind.  Go to this link for more about the thug mindset… http://www.jaygaskill.com/InsideTheCriminalMind.htm }

Most violent crime, including the armed thefts we call robbery and carjacking, are opportunistic, and most street crime is impulsive.  Almost all armed criminals are carrying illegal firearms, most of which have already been used at another crime scene.  My investigators remarked at the fact that a firearm is almost never recovered from an Oakland crime scene because “it never even gets dropped to the pavement before another crook has run off with it.”  Oakland’s police department has been thrice decimated by budget cuts.  The result is a catastrophic under-policing of a high crime prone subpopulation that includes several thousand parolees in a city of only a few hundred thousand.  To keep the lid on, I believe that Oakland needs at least 1,400 street cops (hint – high police ratios were instituted in NYC by Mayor Giuliani and wisely retained by Mayor Bloomberg, and as a direct result the big Apple is one of the safest cities in the world).  Oakland has fewer than 600 cops on the street at the moment (slightly more on the payroll), and crime is busting out all over.

No one in Oakland is talking civilian gun control.  Why? Here is a thought experiment.  You are an able bodied family man or woman, and you live in a place like Oakland, CA.  You qualify for a handgun, after appropriate training.  You are not firearm phobic. You can afford it.  Your neighbors have been terrorized.  You can’t afford to move away or hire a private security service.  You look up the average 911 emergency wait times for your area. Assume one of these is the average wait time for you:

[  ] 10 minutes

[  ] 20 minutes

[  ] 30 minutes

[  ] 60 minutes

[  ] 90 minutes

At which delay point (check the box) would you seriously consider getting a firearm to defend your family?  In the Bay Area, a staunchly progressive-liberal culture, there are several subgroups that are very much into self-defense training and technologies, including personal firearms: The group includes gays, single women and elders.  Why?  Because they are vulnerable targets.

Chip Johnson is an Oakland based columnist for the San Francisco Chronicle.  He usually writes about Oakland, and he never pulls his punches.  Yesterday, Oakland officials held a press conference to brag about how they, with limited resources, had gotten a handle on the crime problem.  Not. Johnson’s piece, “Oakland officials have lost grip on violence”, is worth a full read.  Here’s a sample:

“Across the street from the spot where the news conference was to take place on the windswept 6400 block of International Boulevard, Alexander Brown, a 22-year-old student, talked about his run-ins with violence. He has been robbed and beaten, and had a gun stuck in his face two years ago.

“He relies on his deep religious faith to see him through. “I put my faith in my creator,” said the young man.

“Literally 5 feet down the block, brothers Boogie and Antwan Johnson, who were walking home, also had a story of violence to tell.

“Antwan, 37, caught a stray bullet in the left thigh from an assault rifle last November. Boogie, 23, reeled off the names of five friends lost to gun violence in the last four months. Right next to the Johnson brothers, a store owner who asked not to be named pointed to a hole where a bullet had pierced his front door.

“Finally, a group of high school students from Aspire Academy, a public charter school, walked past – all of them in school purple.

“I asked what they do when they feel threatened by someone or see something sketchy happening close by.

“We run,” said Armando Alajandre, 15.”

Some citizens of this still-free republic would rather not run.  Some object to those who advocate a state monopoly on the technologies of self-defense, especially of the handgun, the great equalizer that gives a 75 year old grandmother, trained in its use, to power to deter a thug four times her size.

It still deeply irritates me that poor people, who make up the overwhelming majority of crime victims in America’s inner cities, are offered all kinds of entitlements by the modern welfare state, except the one that really matters the most: the right to be safe and secure from the predator thugs they are forced to live with.  When we fail at providing this essential protection, who are we to deny our citizens the right to prudent self-help?

In 2010, the U S Supreme Court ruled in McDonald versus City Of Chicago that the right to self-defense protected by the Second Amendment is fundamental to the American conception of ordered liberty and must be applied to limit not only federal power but also that of state and local governments.

Almost any thug in Oakland who is on parole or probation can be repeatedly searched for firearms without a warrant, at times and places determined by law enforcement, not by the criminal. Such sweeps should be conducted every week, and can be expanded to include areas under the subject’s control, including vehicles and other stash places. Catching a thug with an illegal gun is a win-win – the miscreant is off the street and the gun is out of circulation.  Instead, the “use a gun, go to your room” set chooses to grandstand, by holding no-questions-asked guy buybacks, netting a few under -used weapons, like those owned by Granny before she was sent to the rest home, and Uncle Bill’s WWII 45, that was found in the garage.

Mass murders are another matter.  Read my Piece on Evil, Insanity and Dead Children, written in the aftermath of the Connecticut massacre.

If you feel like jumping on a bandwagon, try supporting local police staffing levels, push for tough firearm home storage laws, faster, more complete and sophisticated background checks for firearms purchases, and repeated searches of the convicted criminals living among us.

We are not going to disarm the good guys anytime soon.  No should we.

Piers Morgan “may” deport himself

morgan

After saying that our Constitution and Bible need to be amended, he’s threatening to deport himself, “maybe”…

If America won’t change its crazy gun laws… I may deport myself

Daily Mail: I have fired guns only once in my life, on a  stag party to the Czech capital Prague a few years ago when part of the  itinerary included a trip to an indoor shooting range. For three hours, our  group were let loose on everything from Magnum 45 handguns and Glock pistols, to  high-powered  ‘sniper’ rifles and pump-action shotguns.

It was controlled, legal, safe and undeniably  exciting. But it also showed me, quite demonstrably, that guns are killing  machines.

Rarely has the hideous effect of a gun been  more acutely laid bare than at Sandy Hook elementary school in Newtown,  Connecticut, two weeks ago – when a deranged young man called Adam Lanza  murdered 20 schoolchildren aged six and seven, as well as six adults, in a  sickening rampage.

The Sandy Hook massacre brought back such  horribly vivid memories for me of Dunblane, the worst mass shooting in Britain  in my lifetime. I was editor of the Daily Mirror on that day  back in 1996 and will never forget the appalling TV footage of those poor  Scottish mothers sprinting to the small primary school, many already howling  with anguish at the thought of what might have happened to their five-year-old  children. It was a slaughter so senseless, so  unspeakable, that it reduced even hard-bitten news reporters, including me, to  tears.

And as I watched the parents at Sandy Hook  racing to try to find their children, I saw the same images, the same terror,  that engulfed Dunblane. And I felt the same tears welling up. Then, 16 five-year-old children were slain in  their classroom. Now, 20  six- and seven-year-olds. Beautiful young lives  snuffed out before they had a chance to fulfil any of their potential. It made  me so gut-wrenchingly angry.

I have four children. And I still remember  the blind terror I felt when I lost my son Stanley, then aged two, for half an  hour at a cricket match on a field surrounded by a small running creek. I was  sure he’d drowned. But I was lucky: he finally emerged from where he’d been  hiding – big, cheeky grin intact.

Every parent has a similar story. To even try  to conceive of how you would feel if your child was shot multiple times in the  head by a Rambo madman at school is just impossible. I honestly don’t know how  you would ever carry on with life.

But my anger turned to blind rage when I saw  the reaction to this hideous massacre in America. Sales of the specific weapon used, an AR-15  military-style assault rifle, rocketed at gun stores all over America in the  days following the Sandy Hook shooting.

And the country’s biggest gun supplier, Brownells, said it sold more high-capacity bullet magazines in three days than it normally did in three-and-a-half years.

What is behind this apparently insane  behaviour? The answer is, mainly, fear. The well-organised, richly funded, vociferous  pro-gun lobby were straight out, on my CNN show and many other media outlets,  declaring that the only way those schoolchildren would have survived is if their  teachers had been armed. It’s been their answer to every mass shooting.

After the shootings at a cinema in Aurora,  Colorado, in July – where 70 people were hit, the worst victim-count in such an  incident in US history, and 12 people died – sales of guns in the state rose by  a staggering 41 per cent in the following month as people bought into the theory  that if everyone in the theatre had been armed too, they’d have stopped the  shooter. Can you imagine the scene as 200 people pulled out guns and started  blazing away in a dark theatre?

The gun-lobby logic dictates that the only  way to defend against gun criminals is for everyone else to have a  gun,  too. Teachers, nurses, clergymen, shop assistants, cinema usherettes – everyone  must be armed. To me, this is a warped, twisted logic that  bears no statistical analysis and makes no sense. Do you fight drug addiction  with more cocaine? Alcoholism with more Jack Daniel’s? Of course not.

But woe betide anyone who dares suggest this.  In the days following Sandy Hook, I interviewed a number of gun-rights  representatives and grew increasingly furious as they  trotted out these  hackneyed old  disingenuous lines.

Finally, I erupted at one of them, a man with  the unfortunate name of Larry Pratt, who runs the Gun Owners of America lobbying  group. ‘You,’ I eventually declared, ‘are an  unbelievably stupid man.’ And that was the catalyst for the full wrath  of the gun lobby to crash down on my British head.

A petition was created on an official White  House website demanding my deportation for ‘attacking the 2nd Amendment of the  Constitution’. This, of course, is the one that alludes to an American’s ‘right  to bear arms’.

The concerted effort to get me thrown out of  the country – which has so far gathered more than 90,000 signatures – struck me  as rather ironic, given that by expressing my opinion I was merely exercising my  rights, as a legal US resident, under the 1st Amendment, which protects free  speech. But no matter.

This gun debate is an ongoing war of verbal  attrition in America – and I’m just the latest target, the advantage to the gun  lobbyists being that I’m British, a breed of human being who burned down the  White House in 1814 and had to be forcefully deported en masse, as no American  will ever be allowed to forget – Special Relationship notwithstanding.

It’s no exaggeration to say that America’s  unique fondness for guns pretty much got cemented by hatred of us Brits and the  War of Independence. But the main reason the more fervent gun-rights activists  give is a fear of their own US federal government using its army to impinge on  their freedom. The problem is that America’s historical love of guns means the  country is now awash with them – and with gun death.

tweet

My argument with guns is not based on some  universal, pathological hatred of them. I’m not a pacifist. Guns win necessary  wars and defeat tyrannical regimes like the Nazis.

Nor do I have a problem with those who use  guns for hunting or for sport. I also understand, and respect, how there is an  inherent national belief in America, based on their understanding of the 2nd  Amendment, that everyone should be allowed to have a gun at home for the  purposes of self-defence.

But where I have a big problem is when the  unfortunately ambiguous wording of the 2nd Amendment is twisted to mean that  anyone in America can have any firearm they want, however powerful, and in  whatever quantity they want.

In conclusion, I can spare those Americans  who want me deported a lot of effort by saying this: If you don’t change your  gun laws to at least try to stop this relentless tidal wave of murderous  carnage, then you don’t have to worry about deporting me.

Although I love the country as a second home  and one that has treated me incredibly well, I would, as a concerned parent  first – and latterly, of a one-year-old daughter who may attend an American  elementary school like Sandy Hook in three years’ time – seriously consider  deporting myself.

Nation running out of ammo

Shocker, not.

Legal Insurrection: Reaction to threats by Senator Dianne Feinstein and others to ban certain weapons and severely restrict ownership of guns generally has caused a run on gun stores, as is widely reported.

Less reported is the run on ammunition, leaving ammunition inventories down 93% since election day. So reports Traction Control blog, Plunge! Ammunition Levels Less Than 10% of Pre-Election Levels:

Ammunition Stock levels have fallen by more than 90% from the pre-Election Day levels. Less than 10% remains available. Available Ammunition links will be updated throughout the day. Handguns are down by 80%, Long Guns by 63% for an overall 72.2% reduction in firearms inventories.

ammo

In some locations, ammunition is hard to find:

Gun buyers in Houston have bought up the entire inventory of AR guns. It is not just the guns. The ammunition is sold out. The magazines are sold out, and not just the magazines that hold 30 or more rounds. Even finding a 10-round magazine is elusive. And ammunition? The smaller boxes of ammunition in the 223-556 calibers may be found, but not the larger boxes. Try calling Top Gun, Academy, Carter Country and other stores and you will get more or less the same answer: “We are sold out entirely, we have no idea when we are getting new stock in, and we have no idea what the pricing will be.” Even the online sites that deal in guns and ammo are now low on inventory as sales have spiked.

Investors are noticing what it will mean for ammunition manufacturers in 2013:

Right now, ammo is severely constrained in all major retail stores and online. Local checks by the author at multiple Academy Sports and Outdoors, (which is owned by (KKR), Walmart (WMT), and Dicks Sporting Goods (DKS) have all meet with the same feedback — gun sales, especially of AR-type weapons and pistols, are highly elevated, with some places being sold out of AR-type weapons. Ammo is scarce for popular rounds such as 9mm, .40 cal, .223, and 7.62×39.

Online stores such as cheaperthandirt.com are also sold out on many popular rounds. We had to go all the way to the 9th product page to find 9mm in a 50 round box for sale!

No doubt ammo is hard to find right now. Hope you have already stocked up!
