Governments and Photo Ops

“The state must declare the child to be the most precious treasure of the people.

As long as the government is perceived as working for the benefit of the children,
the people will happily endure almost any curtailment of liberty and almost any
deprivation. ” -Mein Kampf, Adolf Hitler, Publ. Houghton Miflin, 1943, Page 403

Indian Parents Get It

Via  blog.heritage.org:

Slum Dwellers in India Save for Private Schooling

Michelle Kaffenberger April 11, 2012 at 11:10 am

Since 2009, public education has been both free and required for all children between the ages of six and 14. Yet many families in Mumbai slums, where they lack even toilets and basic sanitation, save up their meager earnings to pay for private school education for their kids.

A recent Economist article states that between a quarter and a third of school children in India attend private schools. In India’s cities, experts estimate as many as 85 percent of children attend private schools. According to another report, 73 percent of families in Hyderabad’s slum areas send their children to private schools.

Additionally, private school enrollment has been rising in most of the country, even as public education was legally required to become free and more accessible. Much of the growth is coming from low-cost private schools that cater to poor families and charge tuition as low as $1 per month.

So if the government is providing free education for all children, why are so many poor parents spending their limited income on schooling?

These parents realize something that governments are hesitant to admit: Their children don’t actually learn much in the public schools. This problem is not unique to India; many developing countries are experiencing a rise in private schooling, and The Heritage Foundation discusses at length the benefits of access to private schools in America. The poor parents in developing countries who are exercising their ability to choose a higher quality education option, and doing so without any financial assistance from the government, deserve some attention from development officials.

Private schooling is especially relevant given the Millennium Development Goal that by 2015 all children “will be able to complete a full course of primary schooling.” Because of this goal, significant development money has been poured into education efforts in recent years. It’s good that education is a development priority—there are few better ways to invest in a country’s future than to educate its children. However, dumping foreign aid dollars into public education systems that don’t work will not improve the situation.

USAID and the development community need to pay more heed to private schools. Investment in the private education sector through small loans and recognition of private schools as small and medium enterprises could have much greater effect than aid handouts to governments.

Additionally, improved rating systems, such as the one Gray Matters Capital is developing, could help ensure that poor parents are sending their children to quality private schools. These efforts would go a long way to ensuring that education outcomes, not just enrollment numbers, improve in developing countries.

-End

I cannot say I am all that enamored with the Millennium Development Goal, as I do not like anything that combines the U.N. and children, but I do like the fact that Indian parents – even poor ones, are willing to make sacrifices for their children’s educations and keep them out of the clutches of government schools in the process.

It is just too bad the overwhelming majority of American parents still mindlessly pack off the most precious things in their lives to the government to be “educated.”

If they were more like parents in India, maybe people like Barack Hussein Obama  would not be elected.

Roe v. Wade Spawned New Industry

This is a companion to Dr. Eowyn’s previous post entitled Aborted Human Fetal Cells in Your Food, Vaccines and Cosmetics that lists corporations involved with the use of fetal cells.  After reading that eyeopener, I did further research.  This video is based on information found in a 2010 article on medical ethics entitled “Commercial Markets Created by Abortion.

Video Game Grooms Children for Gay Relationships

Towards the end of her  video, The Miseducation of America,” discussing of The Deliberate Dumbing Down of America , Charlotte Iserbyt warned about the role of computers in changing attitudes and values to line up with the goals of social engineers:

We have all of the evidence from educators and change agents articles saying that the computer is fantastic for changing values, an educator with the World Institute for Computer Assisted Instruction, Dustin Heuston said, “Won’t it be wonderful when a child in the smallest school in the most remote area of the country can have the curriculum developed by the world’s finest psychologists and nobody can get between that child and the curriculum.”

Today John Nolte at Big Hollywood leads with a story that is a perfect example of how this works.

Will ‘Star Wars’ Online Video Game Ask Your Child to Engage In Same-Sex Relationships?

by John Nolte

Apparently, after selling somewhere around 500,000 copies to unsuspecting families everywhere, the creators of the video game “Star Wars: The Old Republic” have decided to add same-sex romances to the online feature.

Say goodbye to your child’s innocence.    Full Story

‘Sex box’ to get new name as parents revolt

Officials in Basel have agreed to rename the “sex box” after receiving some 3,000 letters of protest from parents angered by the controversial trove of wooden penises and fabric vaginas set to be used in a new sex education programme for playschool and primary school kids.

Christoph Eymann, Basel education minister and member of the liberal democrat party (LDP),  responded to parent’s protests in an interview with SonntagsBlick.

“It was no doubt stupid to call it a ’sex box’ – we will change that. But we will stick to our goal: to get across to children that sexuality is something natural. Without forcing anything upon them or taking anything away from their parents,“ he said.

Many parents say they do not understand why sex education needs to be taught to children as young as four.

“There are usually two reasons why sexuality becomes a topic in kindergarten: either the teacher is pregnant or one of the children will soon get a new sister or brother. In such cases, it is correct that the teacher can respond“, Eymann told SonntagsBlick.

Eymann said he understood that one line in the programme, “touching can be enjoyed heartily“, could be misconstrued, but insisted: “It is not about ‘touch me, feel me’. We want to tell the children that there is contact that they may find pleasurable, but some that they should say ’no’ to. Kids can unfortunately can become victims of sexual violence already at playschool age.“

Eymann said he would prefer if sex education was taught to children at home but argued that education officials needed to respond to the realities of today.

“We currently live in an oversexualised society. There is uncontrolled distribution of pornographic material that can reach young children. Some primary school children know the TV schedule until 2am. We would like to offer these children firm support, which is often not available in the family. The box is only an aid. I trust the teachers to approach the material with care.”   Full article with pictures here

Montana Playground: Not for Sissies

A family that lives on the outskirts of  Missoula , Montana decided to build a sturdy, colorful playground for their 3- and 4-year-old sons.

They lined the bottom with smooth-stone gravel all around to avoid knee scrapes and other injuries.

They finished building it one Friday evening and were very pleased with the end product.

The following morning, the mom was about to wake the boys up and have them go out to play in their new play center.    Continue reading

Just When You Think It’s Good….

A man and a woman who had never met before find themselves in the same sleeping carriage of a train. After the initial embarrassment they both go to sleep, the man on the top bunk, the woman on the lower. In the middle of the night the man leans over, wakes the woman and says, “I’m sorry to bother you, but I’m awfully cold and was wondering if you could possibly get me another blanket?” The woman leans out and, with a glint in her eye says “I have a better idea, just for tonight, let’s pretend that we’re married!” The man says happily, “Sure. That sounds great!” The woman says, “Good… get your own freakin blanket!”

They Brought Him Gold, Common Sense, and Fur

THE CHRISTMAS PAGEANT

(Author unknown)

My husband and I had been happily married (most of the time) for five years but hadn’t been blessed with a baby.

I decided to do some serious praying and promised God that if he would give us a child, I would be a perfect mother, love it with all my heart and raise it with His word as my guide.

God answered my prayers and blessed us with a son.

The next year God blessed us with another son.

The following year, He blessed us with yet another son.

The year after that we were blessed with a daughter.

My husband thought we’d been blessed right into poverty. We now had four children, and the oldest was only four years old. I learned never to ask God for anything unless I meant it. As a minister once told me, ”If you pray for rain, make sure you carry an umbrella.”

I began reading a few verses of the Bible to the children each day as they lay in their cribs. I was off to a good start. God had entrusted me with four children and I didn’t want to disappoint Him.

I tried to be patient the day the children smashed two dozen eggs on the kitchen floor searching for baby chicks.

I tried to be understanding when they started a hotel for homeless frogs in the spare bedroom, although it took me nearly two hours to catch all 23 frogs.

When my daughter poured ketchup all over herself and rolled up in a blanket to see how it felt to be a hot dog, I tried to see the humor rather than the mess.

In spite of changing over 25,000 diapers, never eating a hot meal and never sleeping for more than thirty minutes at a time, I still thank God daily for my children. While I couldn’t keep my promise to be a perfect mother - I didn’t even come close - I did keep my promise to raise them in the Word of God.

I knew I was missing the mark just a little when I told my daughter we were going to church to worship God, and she wanted to bring a bar of soap along to ”wash up” Jesus, too.

Something was lost in the translation when I explained that God gave us everlasting life, and my son thought it was generous of God to give us his “last wife.”

My proudest moment came during the children’s Christmas pageant.

My daughter was playing Mary, two of my sons were shepherds and my youngest son was a wise man. This was their moment to shine.

My five-year-old shepherd had practiced his line,  ”We found the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes.” But he was nervous and said, ”The baby was wrapped in wrinkled clothes.”

My four-year-old “Mary” said, ”That’s not ‘wrinkled clothes,’ silly. That’s dirty, rotten clothes.” A wrestling match broke out between Mary and the shepherd and was stopped by an angel, who bent her halo and lost her left wing.

I slouched a little lower in my seat when Mary dropped the doll representing Baby Jesus, and it bounced down the aisle crying, ”Mama-mama.” Mary grabbed the doll, wrapped it back up and held it tightly as the wise men arrived.

My other son stepped forward wearing a bathrobe and a paper crown, knelt at the manger and announced, ”We are the three wise men, and we are bringing gifts of gold, common sense and fur.”

The congregation dissolved into laughter, and the pageant got a standing ovation.

“I’ve never enjoyed a Christmas program as much as this one,” laughed the pastor, wiping tears from his eyes. ”For the rest of my life, I’ll never hear the  Christmas story without thinking of gold, common sense and fur.”

“My children are my pride and my joy and my greatest blessing,” I said as I dug through my purse for an aspirin.

Jesus had no servants, yet they called Him Master. Had no degree, yet they called Him Teacher. Had no medicines, yet they called Him Healer. Had no army, yet kings feared Him.

He won no military battles, yet He conquered the world. He committed no crime, yet they crucified Him. He was buried in a tomb, yet He lives today.

Feel honored to serve such a Leader who loves us.

 GOD BLESS YOU ALL!

The Children’s Bible

“Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” (Matthew 19:14)

The Holy Bible Through the Eyes of a Child

In the beginning, which occurred near the start, there was nothing but God, darkness, and some gas.  The Bible says, “The Lord thy God is one,” but I think He must be a lot older than that.

Anyway, God said, “Give me a light!” and someone did.

Then God made the world.

He split the Adam and made Eve. Adam and Eve were naked, but they weren’t embarrassed because mirrors hadn’t been invented yet.

Adam and Eve disobeyed God by eating one bad apple, so they were driven from the Garden of Eden…. Not sure what they were driven in though, because they didn’t have cars.

Adam and Eve had a son, Cain, who hated his brother as long as he was Abel.

Pretty soon all of the early people died off, except for Methuselah, who lived to be like a million or something.

One of the next important people was Noah, who was a good guy, but one of his kids was kind of a Ham.  Noah built a large boat and put his family and some animals on it. He asked some other people to join him, but they said they would have to take a rain check.

After Noah came Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.  Jacob was more famous than his brother, Esau, because Esau sold Jacob his birthmark in exchange for some pot roast.  Jacob had a son named Joseph who wore a really loud sports coat.

Another important Bible guy is Moses, whose real name was Charlton Heston.  Moses led the Israel Lights out of  Egypt and away from the evil Pharaoh after God sent ten plagues on Pharaoh’s people.  These plagues included frogs, mice, lice, bowels, and no cable.

God fed the Israel Lights every day with manicotti.  Then he gave them His Top Ten Commandments. These include: don’t lie, cheat, smoke, dance, or covet your neighbor’s stuff.

Oh, yeah, I just thought of one more: Humor thy father and thy mother.

One of Moses’ best helpers was Joshua who was the first Bible guy to use spies.  Joshua fought the battle of Geritol and the fence fell over on the town.

After Joshua came David.  He got to be king by killing a giant with a slingshot.  He had a son named Solomon who had about 300 wives and 500 porcupines.  My teacher says he was wise, but that doesn’t sound very wise to me.

After Solomon there were a bunch of major league prophets.  One of these was Jonah, who was swallowed by a big whale and then barfed up on the shore.

There were also some minor league prophets, but I guess we don’t have to worry about them.

After the Old Testament came the New Testament.  Jesus is the star of The New.  He was born in Bethlehem in a barn.  (I wish I had been born in a barn too, because my mom is always saying to me, “Close the door! Were you born in a barn?” It would be nice to say, “As a matter of fact, I was.”)

During His life, Jesus had many arguments with sinners like the Pharisees and the Democrats.

Jesus also had twelve opossums.

The worst one was Judas Asparagus.  Judas was so evil that they named a terrible vegetable after him.

Jesus was a great man.  He healed many leopards and even preached to some Germans on the Mount.

But the Democrats and all those guys put Jesus on trial before Pontius the Pilot.  Pilot didn’t stick up for Jesus.  He just washed his hands instead.

Anyways, Jesus died for our sins, then came back to life again.  He went up to Heaven but will be back at the end of the Aluminum.  His return is foretold in the book of Revolution.
