 LEAD: Wife killed by Afghan militiaman for giving birth to a girl

Kunduz, Afghanistan – An Afghan woman was choked to death by her husband – a local militiaman – and mother-in-law for delivering a baby girl for the third time in northern Afghanistan, officials said Monday.

‘Storay, a 30-year-old mother of three, was choked to death by her husband and her mother-in-law in a remote village in Khanabad district of Kunduz province,’ police spokesman Sayed Sarwar Hussaini told dpa.

Khanabad district governor Sofi Habib said that Sher Mohammad, the husband of the deceased woman who was killed, is an active member of a pro-government local militia group with around 20 to 30 armed gunmen in the district.

‘She was told by her husband that if she delivered another baby girl, he would kill her,’ police official Hussaini said.

The woman gave birth to the third girl three months ago.

‘We have arrested Storay’s mother-in-law and we are looking for her husband, too, who is on the run,’ Hussaini said.

Afghan government with the support of the international troops has armed villagers in many far-flung areas with weapons to fight the Taliban in their own neighbourhood since two years.

The initiative has been widely criticized by rights activists for the violation of human rights by the local militiamen who are often accused of extorting money, raping women and killing their rivals.

Last Novemeber, similar gunmen threw acid on the face of three girls and their parents in the same Kunduz province after the family rejected the proposal by a local militia leader to marry the eldest daughter.

Last month, a teenage girl was rescued by police in the neighbouring province of Baghlan after her in-laws tortured and kept her in a toilet for six months because she refused to prostitute herself.

Rights activists have constantly raised concerns over the treatment of women in Afghan society.

A United Nations report in 2010 said nearly one-third of all Afghan women are exposed to some level of physical and psychological violence and an estimated 25 per cent suffer sexual abuse.

Andre on the road to recovery

Dog Left for Dead With Eyes Gouged Out Getting Better

FOX Phoenix:  A dog that was left for dead in a plastic bag is doing better on Saturday, and the reward for information that helps police find his tormentor is bigger.  

Andre was found in a Dumpster in Buckeye a little more than two weeks ago. He had apparently been used as target practice for BB guns.  The veterinarian who is treating him said she had never seen a living dog with such terrible anemia, but after a blood transfusion, his is doing better.

His eyes were gouged out, but his eye sockets are healing well after his surgery.  Andre is now taking short talks and has a good appetite, and he is sleeping for most of the time.   He’s also heading up to Sedona with his foster family, where he will be fed every two hours.

Andre has diabetes — but is now on insulin. He’s also enjoying being petted.

PETA has posted a $1,000 reward for the capture of Andre’s abuser.   The Animal Guardian Network has said it will match that amount, making the reward total $2,000.

I hope they catch the bast*rd that did this.  Proper punishment?  Give me 10 minutes with him and my BB gun!

These people are all traitors to our Nation. They should be put in prison. This means they all understood what the founders meant when put this in. Why would they try to change, unless they knew damn well what the clause meant?

One day in the small town of Pumphandle the streets are deserted. Times are tough, everybody is in debt, and everybody is living on credit. A tourist visiting the area drives through town, stops at The Hotel and lays a $100 bill on the desk saying he wants to inspect the rooms upstairs to pick one for the night. As soon as he walks upstairs, the motel owner grabs the bill and runs next door to pay his debt to the butcher.

The butcher takes the $100 and runs down the street to retire his debt to the pig farmer. The pig farmer takes the $100 and heads off to pay his bill
to his supplier, the Co-op. The guy at the Co-op takes the $100 and runs to pay his debt to the local prostitute, who has also been facing hard times and has had to offer her”services” on credit. The hooker rushes to the hotel and pays off her room bill with the hotel owner.

The hotel proprietor then places the $100 back on the counter so the traveler will not suspect anything. At that moment the traveler comes down the stairs, states that the rooms are not satisfactory, picks up the $100 bill and leaves.

No one produced anything. No one earned anything. However, the whole town now thinks that they are out of debt and there is a false atmosphere of optimism and glee.

And that, my friends, is how a “stimulus package”
works!

That morning, an administrative law judge in Atlanta conducted a hearing into whether a sitting President of the United States of America who’s seeking reelection should be allowed to have his name be placed on the 2012 electoral ballot of the state of Georgia.

Despite desperate legal maneuverings by defendant Barack Hussein Obama’s attorney, Michael Jablonski, to get the hearing dismissed (see here and here), both Deputy Chief Judge Michael Malihi and Georgia’s Secretary of State Brian Kemp stood firm.

And so, the scheduled hearing did indeed take place. The plaintiffs and their attorneys were present, but neither the defendant nor his attorney deigned to come and, in so doing, they effectively forfeited their defense.

Judge Malihi was prepared then and there to make a default judgment in favor of the plaintiffs. Happily, the attorneys for the plaintiffs persuaded the judge to conduct the hearing any way because they wanted to present their arguments so that those arguments and evidence would be entered into the court’s public records. Any future defense launched by Obama will have to address those arguments and evidence.

In his interview with Rev. James David Manning after the historic hearing, one of the plaintiffs, Carl Swensson, confidently predicts that Judge Malihi will rule against the defendant on Feb. 5, and recommend to Secretary of State Kemp that Barack Obama’s name NOT be placed on Georgia’s 2012 ballot. Swensson says Kemp has already indicated he will act in accordance with the judge’s ruling.

This means Obama will lose Georgia’s 16 Electoral College votes. More importantly, Georgia has now set an example for others to launch similar ballot challenges in other states.

Should these efforts succeed in unseating this fraud from the White House, Americans have patriots like Carl Swensson to thank.

Mr. Swensson has devoted much time, energy, and his own money to his legal challenge against Obama being on Georgia’s 2012 ballot. He needs our help. Here is his message:

The Tax Foundation recently released its rankings on the business-friendliness of the tax system of America’s 50 constituent states.

The foundation’s State Business Tax Climate Index, now in its 8th edition, accounts for dozens of state tax provisions, creating a single easy-to-use score that measures each state against the tax climates of every other state. Each state’s ranking is therefore relative to the actual tax policies in place around the country, not a measurement against a theoretical “perfect” system.

The Index enables business leaders, government policymakers, and taxpayers to gauge how their states’ tax systems compare. While some similar studies focus on the total amount residents pay in taxes each year, the Index focuses on how the elements of a state tax system enhance or harm the competitiveness of a state’s business environment.

Tax Foundation economist Mark Robyn explains: “Even in our global economy, a state’s stiffest and most direct competition often comes from other states. State lawmakers need to be aware of how their states’ business climates match up to their immediate neighbors and to other states in their region.”

The best states in this year’s index do not have one or more of the major taxes, and thus do not have the associated complexity and distortions. In contrast, the worst states generally have complex, non-neutral taxes with comparatively high rates.
