Another partisan professor misuses classroom to bash Christians and Republicans

The faculty of most colleges and universities in the United States, especially the top-tier Ivy league ones, are registered Democrats. Some are outright Marxist socialists or communists.

The University of Southern California (USC) is no different.

A month ago, I wrote about an aging loser of a political science professor at USC, Adjunct Assistant Professor Darry Sragow, who used classroom time to bash white people, Republicans, and conservatives, although he himself is white.

How is Sragow an academic loser?

“Assistant Professor” is the title of the lowest rung of professorship — typically of  young fresh-out-of-grad-schools Ph.D.s.  “Adjunct” means Sragow is hired only on a year-by-year basis. All of which means that Sragow was hired as a junior Assistant Professor in another college or university many years ago but was denied tenure there. So now he makes his living drifting from one university to another as an Adjunct.

In other words, Darry Sragow is a loser — a failure in academe. How can I say this so confidently? Because I know academe, having gone through the ranks, from young assistant professor, to tenured associate professor, to full professor, to full professor emeritus. I had never ever misused my authority as a professor to use the classroom to advance my partisanship or to hurl insults at political figures.

Now comes news that another USC political science prof, Richard Dekmejian, has also been caught on video using his class as a platform for bashing conservatives.

In the video, Dekmejian claims former President George W. Bush suffered from mental instability and stupidity during his time in office. He said Bush was bound by “serious intellectual and mental problems” and must have been “stupid or lying” to initiate Operation Iraqi Freedom for the reason of promoting democracy.

Dekmejian also leveled a number of derogatory comments against members of the Bush administration, alleging both Colin Powell and Condoleezza Rice “lied” to the American people during their service. The professor instructed his students that “You have to use that term [lying] people. Don’t use that term mislead.”

Dekmejian also accused Christians of salivating over violence in the Middle East: “The right wing evangelical community… these are the people who get happy on television every time there is a conflict in the Middle East. They think that the book of revelation tells them that the messiah…the Christian messiah, Jesus is going to come…all we need is a war in the Middle East involving Israel and the Arabs.”

Dekmejian did, however, praise former President Jimmy Carter (D) for his service during and after his presidency: “He’s still going around doing good things by the way, Carter. That Carter, very respectable.”

Elizabeth Garrett, provost and senior vice president for Academic Affairs at USC, told Campus Reform in a written statement that “faculty members are entitled to freedom in the classroom in discussing their subjects. The freedom to take unpopular positions and the freedom to express those positions publicly are at the foundation of what it means to be a faculty member of a university. One of the most important principles of an academic community has been that academic inquiry and discussion be free from censorship or undue outside control.”

Blah, blah, blah.

But for Garrett, “academic freedom” seems only to apply to faculty but not to students. She noted that USC’s student code of conduct “expressly prohibits” students from videotaping their professors in the classroom, but declined to say whether Talgo would be disciplined for releasing his video of Professor Dekmejian to the public.

Richard Dekmejian is a full professor of political science. Surprisingly for a full professor, Dekmejian’s faculty profile lists only his “conference and other presentations” and his university service, but no book or even a refereed journal article. On Rate My Professors, on a scale of 1 to 5 (with 5 signifying “excellent”), he scored an overall rating of a decidedly mediocre 3.4.

Immigration reform bill will create a national biometric database

The so-called Gang of 8* immigration reform amnesty bill, Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act, is bad enough, given that:

• Its total costs are estimated to be $6.3 trillion (!).

• Two amendments acknowledging same-sex marriage were recently added to the bill by Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-VT).

* Gang of 8 refers to the four Republicans and four Democrats who are sponsors of the bill. They are Sens. John McCain (R-Ariz.), Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.), Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), Bob Menendez (D-N.J.) and Michael Bennet (D-Colo.)

But there is something even worse, something downright sinister, hidden in the 844-page bill: a national biometric database of every adult in the United States.

Biometrics refers to the identification of humans by distinctive measurable characteristics, such as iris scan, DNA or fingerprint.

David Kravets reports for Wired, May 10, 2013:

The immigration reform measure the Senate began debating yesterday would create a national biometric database of virtually every adult in the U.S., in what privacy groups fear could be the first step to a ubiquitous national identification system.

Buried in the more than 800 pages of the bipartisan legislation (pdf)  is language mandating the creation of the innocuously-named “photo tool,” a massive federal database administered by the Department of Homeland Security and containing names, ages, Social Security numbers and photographs of everyone in the country with a driver’s license or other state-issued photo ID.

Employers would be obliged to look up every new hire in the database to verify that they match their photo.

This piece of the Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act is aimed at curbing employment of undocumented immigrants. But privacy advocates fear the inevitable mission creep, ending with the proof of self being required at polling places, to rent a house, buy a gun, open a bank account, acquire credit, board a plane or even attend a sporting event or log on the internet. Think of it as a government version of Foursquare, with Big Brother cataloging every check-in.

“It starts to change the relationship between the citizen and state, you do have to get permission to do things,” said Chris Calabrese, a congressional lobbyist with the American Civil Liberties Union. “More fundamentally, it could be the start of keeping a record of all things.”

For now, the legislation allows the database to be used solely for employment purposes. But historically such limitations don’t last. The Social Security card, for example, was created to track your government retirement benefits. Now you need it to purchase health insurance.

“The Social Security number itself, it’s pretty ubiquitous in your life,” Calabrese said.

David Bier, an analyst with the Competitive Enterprise Institute, agrees with the ACLU’s fears.

“The most worrying aspect is that this creates a principle of permission basically to do certain activities and it can be used to restrict activities,” he said. “It’s like a national ID system without the card.”

For the moment, the debate in the Senate Judiciary Committee is focused on the parameters of legalization for unauthorized immigrants, a border fence and legal immigration in the future.

The committee is scheduled to resume debate on the package next Tuesday.

The Internal Revenue Service apologized Friday to conservative political groups for giving their tax documents extra scrutiny — validating the worst fears of Republican activists who have long accused the Obama administration of politicizing the process.

Roughly 75 groups were singled out using words like “tea party” or “patriot” in tax documents, Lois Lerner, who is responsible for overseeing tax-exempt groups, said on a hastily arranged conference call Friday afternoon.

“Mistakes were made initially, but they were in no way due to any political or partisan rationale,” the IRS said in a separate statement.

The announcement is the latest black eye for an agency that has been criticized by members of Congress from both parties, reform groups and conservative activists for its handling of politically active tax-exempt nonprofits.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell called for President Barack Obama to order a “transparent, government-wide review” to see if similar practices are happening elsewhere in the administration.

House Ways and Means oversight subcommittee Chairman Charles Boustany told POLITICO he will launch an “aggressive” investigation. “We’re not going to let this rest,” the Louisiana Republican said. “We’re going to pursue this vigorously.”

Outside groups on both sides have increasingly chosen to organize as nonprofits — regulated and reviewed by the IRS instead of the Federal Election Commission. Their nonprofit status exempts those groups from paying federal taxes — and unlike super PACs, allows them to hide their donors.

Major outside groups like the Karl Rove-affiliated Crossroads GPS, Koch brothers-backed Americans for Prosperity and the pro-Barack Obama group Priorities USA are organized as 501(c)(4) nonprofits.

The IRS statement said the agency “should have done a better job” dealing with the dramatic influx in applications for 501(c)(4) status. It also said that the decisions on how to handle the applications were made by “local, career employees in Cincinnati.”

“When we see an uptick in applications from a particular type of group…that we don’t ordinarily see, what we do is we centralize those applications into one group to work on them. We do this all the time,” Lerner told reporters. “The problem here was that in some cases they added actual case names to the list. They added ‘tea party’ and ‘patriot’ to the list of cases that should be centralized in this group.”

Lerner said that she only began looking into the issue when the press started writing about it last year before the election. but she declined to say why it took six months for the agency to publicly admit the practice or if any employees involved had been punished.

Lerner added that she was not aware if White House or Treasury Department employees knew about the review before Friday’s apology, and said she did not remember when she notified higher-ups at the IRS.

The White House has not responded to a request for comment.

McConnell said the IRS’s apology wasn’t nearly enough. “Make no mistake, an apology won’t put this issue to rest,” he said. “Now more than ever we need to send a clear message to the Obama administration that the First Amendment is non-negotiable, and that apologies after an election year are not an sufficient response to what we now know took place at the IRS.

“This kind of political thuggery has absolutely no place in our politics,”

Alex Okrent: -Apparently found deat at Obama’s campaign headquarters in Chicago. Witnesses say he collapsed, found dead after.  Okrent had long been a staffer back the Obama 2004 U.S. senate campaign, on staff for eight years.  Parents immediately say the cause of death was “heart attack”, but no autopsy was yet performed.  Medical examiner said the cause of death was  ”inconclusive”.  Internet recornds have been scrubbed. Whistleblowers confirm Obama regime lied about the Benghazi attack

Today, three current State Department officers testified before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, chaired by Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA). They are:

• Mark Thompson, an official with the State Department’s Counterterrorism Bureau.
• Greg Hicks, deputy chief of mission in Libya who became top U.S. diplomat in the country after Ambassador Chris Stevens was killed in the terror attack.
• Eric Nordstrom, a diplomatic security officer who was formerly the regional security officer in Libya.

Their testimonies confirmed what we already knew in the days after the horrible attack on Sept. 11, 2011, against the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, which took the lives of four Americans: U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens, State Department worker Sean Smith, and former U.S. Navy SEALs Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty.

As Jerry of Political War Zone pointed out, Benghazigate is far worse than Nixon’s Watergate for this simple reason: No one died in Watergate, but four Americans, including an ambassador, were killed in Benghazigate.

This is a summary of their testimonies today:

1. Obama regime lied: The Obama regime (Secretary of State Hillary “what difference does it make?” Clinton, U.S. Ambassador to the UN Susan Rice, and Obama the POS) lied about the nature of the Benghazi attack, calling it a spontaneous protest by Muslim masses against an anti-Muslim video made by a California man. According to Greg Hicks, “everybody in the mission” believed it was an act of terror “from the get-go.” Hicks also said he had briefed Clinton that night, but she continued to blame the video for the attack.

2. An Islamic terrorist attack: In addition to Hick’s testimony, Rep. Trey Goudy (R-SC) read into the record an email from Beth Jones, the acting assistant secretary of state for Near East Affairs. The September 12 email—disclosed for the first time today—said Jones had spoken to Libya’s ambassador to Washington who said the attack was the work of former Gadhafi regime loyalists. Jones said she told the ambassador: “The group that conducted the attacks, Ansar al-Sharia, is affiliated with Islamic terrorists.”

3. Failure in security: The U.S. diplomatic buildings in Benghazi did not meet State Department security standards and were listed as “high threat” before the 9/11/2011 attacks. Eric Nordstrom said, “It’s my understanding only the secretary of state could waive those requirements.” In other words, Hillary Clinton is responsible for the lapse in security at Benghazi.

4. Cover-up: Gregory Hicks testified he was told by the State Department not to speak to members of Congress while they were investigating the details of the Benghazi consulate attacks. State Department lawyers instructed him to avoid an interview with Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah), who traveled to Libya to investigate the attacks: “I was instructed not to allow the RSO, the acting deputy chief of mission and myself to be personally interviewed by Congressman Chaffetz.”

5. White House knew what was happening as it was happening: Hicks testified that an UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle or drone) was flying in Libya the night of the attack.

Florida county sheriff wants Americans to inform on anyone who “hates government”

America is turning into East Germany (German Democratic Republic or GDR) where neighbors, friends, and families acted as informants for the Staci or Ministry for State Security.

In September 2011, Obama launched a short-lived snitch campaign with a new website AttackWatch.com calling on the American people to report any and all “attacks” against the POS.

Last month, the New York state government began offering a handsome reward of $500 to anyone who snitches on gun owners.

Now it’s Florida’s turn.

A Palm Beach County sheriff named Ric Bradshaw is asking citizens to report to a 24-hour hotline their neighbors, friends or family members who “hate government,” and anyone whom they “fear” could harm themselves or others.

When the hotline gets a phone tip, the person who was snitched on will get a knock on the door and taken for “mental health” services “if needed”!

Dara Kam and Stacey Singer report for the Palm Beach Post, April 29, 2013, that Florida House and Senate budget leaders have awarded Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw $1 million for a new violence prevention unit aimed at preventing tragedies like those in Newtown, Conn., and Aurora, Colo., from occurring on his turf.

Bradshaw plans to use the extra $1 million to launch “prevention intervention” units featuring specially trained deputies, mental health professionals and caseworkers. The teams will respond to citizen phone calls to a 24-hour hotline with a knock on the door and a referral to services, if needed.

The goal will be avoiding crime — and making sure law enforcement knows about potential powder kegs before tragedies occur, Bradshaw said. But the earmark, which is a one-time-only funding provision, provoked a debate Monday among mental health advocates and providers about the balance between civil liberties, privacy and protecting the public.

Bradshaw said his proposal is a first-of-its-kind in the nation, and he hopes it will become a model for the rest of the state like his gang prevention and pill-mill units.

“Every single incident, whether it’s Newtown, that movie theater, or the guy who spouts off at work and then goes home and kills his wife and two kids — in every single case, there were people who said they knew ahead of time that there was a problem,” Bradshaw said. “If the neighbor of the mom in Newtown had called somebody, this might have saved 25 kids’ lives.”

Bradshaw is readying a hotline and is planning public service announcements to encourage local citizens to report their neighbors, friends or family members if they fear they could harm themselves or others.

The goal won’t be to arrest troubled people but to get them help before there’s violence, Bradshaw said. As a side benefit, law enforcement will have needed information to keep a close eye on things.

“We want people to call us if the guy down the street says he hates the government, hates the mayor and he’s gonna shoot him,” Bradshaw said. “What does it hurt to have somebody knock on a door and ask, ‘Hey, is everything OK?’ ”

That’s enough for Senate budget chief Joe Negron, R-Stuart, who helped push through the funding last weekend. He said he met with Bradshaw about the program and “got assurances from the sheriff that this is going to be done in a way that respects people’s autonomy and privacy, and that he makes sure to protect against people making false claims.”

Mental health advocates, however, worry about a potential new source of stigma, and the potential for erosion of the civil rights of people with mental illnesses.

“How are they possibly going to watch everybody who makes a comment like that? It’s subjective,” said Liz Downey, executive director of the Palm Beach County branch of the National Alliance on Mental Illness. “We don’t want to take away people’s civil liberties just because people aren’t behaving the way we think they should be.”

Bradshaw acknowledged the risk that anyone in a messy divorce or in a dispute with a neighbor could abuse the hotline. But, he said, he’s confident that his trained professionals will know how to sort out fact from fiction. “We know how to sift through frivolous complaints,” he said.

The proposal still needs the blessing of Gov. Rick Scott, who has line-item veto authority.

But if it goes forward, Palm Beach County’s already stretched mental health and substance abuse providers could find themselves even busier. There is no ready source of funds once the $1 million runs its course, as there hasn’t been an increase to community mental health funding in many years.

“Our community agencies throughout the state don’t have the funds to meet the needs they have currently,” said Bob Sharpe, CEO of the Florida Council for Community Mental Health. “It sounds like it could work, but with no new funding we’d have to find it within existing resources.”

Colorado Gun Companies Keep Promise and Leave State

Last month I reported that two firearms related companies had made announcements that they were leaving the state of Colorado due to the anti-gun laws the state had passed. Three companies had vowed to leave the state: Magpul, Alfred Manufacturing and HiViz.
The companies were being courted by a number of states that are proud of their gun-friendly laws, but the Colorado companies were being rather secretive as to where they might be heading. That is until now.
HiViz Shooting Systems, formerly located in Fort Collins, manufactures various parts for a number of weapons, some of which are now outlawed under Colorado law. They have just announced that are moving their entire operations to Laramie, Wyoming. In their announcement, HiViz stated that their decision on Laramie was partially due to their gun friendly laws, but also due to certain tax advantages and it is an hour away from their Fort Collins location, allowing most of their employees to make the drive and continue to work for them. Ground breaking for their new facility is expected to take place this summer.
Magpul Industries manufactures high capacity magazines that hold 30 rounds. Their magazines are now illegal in Colorado and they said that they would not stay in a state that outlaws their product. According to recent reports, Magpul has already started production in another state, but that location is being kept under wraps until after the NRA Convention being held in Houston.
All I can say is that I’m glad these companies are following through on their threats, even though it has to cost them a pretty penny to move their operations. I just wish more firearms related firms would leave their states that have passed anti-Second Amendment legislation.        More HERE!!!

Dear Senator Rubio:

I received your undated “Personal & Confidential – Urgent Reply Requested” telling me “the GOP faces a math problem of epic proportions that simply cannot be ignored.” Your letter goes on to tell me “We lost the African American vote 93%-7%, the Hispanic vote 71%-27% and the vote under 30 by 60%-40%.”

Your first mistake was thinking that I care about what happens to the GOP. There’s not a tinkers damn difference between Democrats and Republicans other than the pace that either will get the American people to the promised land of socialism. My generation sacrificed thousands of American lives in Korea and Vietnam fighting Marxism; now you want me to accept it, condone it and foster it here? No deal!

Your second mistake was playing the divide and conquer game. I did not see African Americans or Hispanic Americans on the battle fields of Vietnam; I don’t see African or Hispanic Americans here now. All I see in America is Americans. If you are not an American you do not belong here. This rhetoric tells me you are part of the problem, not the solution.

I find your comments about our “not needing to change our economic principles nor our values” interesting. If history is correct, we fought and beat Fascism during WWII. Somehow or another however, we practice Fascism here today. [1]  I don’t support that either.

With regard to our “values and conservative philosophy,” we differ. I’m a constitutional conservative; you are not. I support and defend the rule of law; you do not. Your willingness to “compromise” with the likes of Schumer, and McCain et al says a lot about who you are. They trash the Constitution and rule of law with every breath. Mit Gehangen, Mit Gefangen. [Note from Eowyn: "Mitgefangen, mitgehangen" is German for "Cling together, swing together" or "In for a penny, in for a pound".]

Similarly, I do not share the vision or the political construct you are pushing regarding Republicans reaching out to “new voters.” I do not share your ultimate vision of nations without borders.

What you propose is in the Humanist Manifesto of 1973 (Marxist) that deals with American sovereignty. It declares, “Americans must transcend the limits of national sovereignty and move toward the building of a world community. We look to a world order based on transnational federal government.”[7]

Charles Reich, in the “Greening of America,” the manifesto, said “The true revolution is occurring . . . At the present junction of history, commitment to all humankind is the highest commitment of which we are capable; it transcends the narrow allegiances to church, state, party, class or race in moving toward a wide vision. What more daring a goal for humankind than for each person to become, in ideal as well as practice, a citizen of the world community”.”[8]

The idea of the end of nations and the creation of a world government has been to dream of intellectuals since Kant. It is Christian Heresy. Trading the hereafter for the here-and now is the bargain. As Christianity dies in the West the foundation of the first floor of a world government is already in place. The Supreme Court ruling on religion was not an aberration or an accident. Neither is the current invasion of Illegal aliens.

The oft touted “Global Economy” is the precursor to global governance where the UN is the parliament, the Security Council is its upper chamber (abolishing the veto) the General Assembly is the lower house. The International Criminal Court, the World Court, and the World Trade Organization constitute its judicial branches; and the IMF is the Federal Reserve. The World Bank and its sister development banks are the foreign aid agencies. The UN Food and Agricultural Organization and the World Health Organization are an example of its welfare agencies. The Kyoto Protocol and global warming marks the creation of a global EPA. This represents the model and forerunner of the EU. [9] I do not support global governance; neither should you.

Like many other Americans I see my country transforming into something do not I recognize. I resent being a stranger in my own country.

I also reject and vehemently oppose

• Seeing old holidays disappear.
• Seeing old heroes degraded.
• Seeing the art and artifacts of a glorious past removed from their museums and replaced by authors and titles I have never heard of.
• Seeing the moral code I was raised with being overthrown by a popular culture that is saturated with raw sex that trumpets hedonistic values taught, encouraged, and condoned in public schools which is causing the culture I grew up to die inside the country I grew up in.
• God being dethroned, my heroes defiled, my culture polluted, my values assaulted and my country invaded.

In summary, I’d really be stupid if I supported your vision for this country with my time and money, don’t you think? When you tell your Republican backers and the rest of the world you are constitutionally ineligible to run for the presidency and you finally decide to do something about the sitting usurper, I will be happy to discuss my support for you. Until then, please take me off your list.

Homeland Security uses 1,000 more rounds per person than the U.S. Army

For several years now, with no help from the Marxist State Media, bloggers have been sounding the alarm about those purchases of arms and ammunition by Obama’s Dept of Homeland Security (DHS). So it’s good to finally see Congress beginning to ask questions about those purchases.

FoxNews reports that yesterday, Congressman Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) said DHS is using roughly 1,000 rounds of ammunition more per person than the U.S. Army, as he and other lawmakers sharply questioned DHS officials at a House committee hearing on DHS’s “massive” bullet buys.

Chaffetz said, “It is entirely … inexplicable why the Department of Homeland Security needs so much ammunition.”The hearing itself was unusual, as questions about the department’s ammunition purchases until recently had bubbled largely under the radar — on blogs and in the occasional news article. But as the Department of Homeland Security found itself publicly defending the purchases, lawmakers gradually showed more interest in the issue.Chaffetz, who chairs one of the House oversight subcommittees holding the hearing Thursday, revealed that the department currently has more than 260 million rounds in stock. He said the department bought more than 103 million rounds in 2012 and used 116 million that same year — among roughly 70,000 agents.Comparing that with the small-arms purchases procured by the U.S. Army, he said the DHS is churning through between 1,300 and 1,600 rounds per officer, while the U.S. Army goes through roughly 350 rounds per soldier. Chaffetz noted that is “roughly 1,000 rounds more per person. Their officers use what seems to be an exorbitant amount of ammunition.”

Nick Nayak, chief procurement officer for the Department of Homeland Security, did not challenge Chaffetz’s numbers but tried to counter what he described as several misconceptions about the bullet buys. Despite reports that the department was trying to buy up to 1.6 billion rounds over five years, he said that is not true. The number is closer to 750 million. He said the department, on average, buys roughly 100 million rounds per year, and claims that the department is stockpiling ammo are “simply not true.” Further, he countered claims that the purchases are helping create broader ammunition shortages in the U.S.

Congressman John Tierney (D-Mass), at the opening of the committee hearing, ridiculed Chaffetz’s and others’ concerns as “conspiracy theories” that have “no place” in the committee room.

While DHS has long said it needs the bullets for agents in training and on duty, and buys in bulk to save money, Republicans say the purchases raise “serious” questions about waste and accountability.

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) said, “This is not about conspiracy theories, this is about good government.”  Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif), who chairs the full Oversight and Government Reform Committee, said he suspects rounds are being stockpiled, and then either “disposed of,” passed to non-federal agencies, or shot “indiscriminately.” If that is the case, he said, “then shame on you.”

Update:

Republicans in the Senate and House are expected to introduce a joint bill today (April 26) that would limit the amount of ammunition that federal agencies are allowed to buy and stockpile over the next six months, the Washington Free Beacon reports. The bill is entitled the Ammunition Management for More Accountability or “AMMO” Act. (Source: The Blaze)
