The Joker in last night’s VP debate

It turns out the American people don’t just have one Joker in the White House, we have two.

We found that out in last night’s 2012 VP debate.

CNN/ORC International nationwide poll taken right after last night’s debate: 48% of voters who watched the debate thought Ryan won; 44% thought Biden won.

About VPOS:

AP: ‘Laugh, chuckle, grimace, grin, smirk, goofy face’

RNC Chair Reince Preibus: Biden interrupted Ryan 82 times

Fox News anchor Chris Wallace: “I’ve never seen a candidate as disrespectful as Biden tonight”
CNN’s Gloria Borger: “Biden came off as condescending”

Brit Hume: “while Paul Ryan was talking…[Biden] was smirking, laughing, smiling, mugging…. I thought it was rude and I have a feeling it will come across to a lot of people as rude. It looked like a cranky old man to some extent debating a polite young man.”

Katherine Hall Jamieson, a professor of political communication at the University of Pennsylvania: “I’m not sure what that was – a smile? Not really. Not a laugh, either…. Whenever you’re paying attention to the person reacting, it draws attention from the person talking…. The Democrats, of course, thought it was great.”

Jerry Shuster, who teaches political communication at the University of Pittsburgh: “I think it was part of an overall strategy to keep Ryan off stride. He really couldn’t ever finish a thought.”

Body language expert Lillian Glass, author of the upcoming Body Language Advantage: “That mugging, those condescending looks – it was a complete turnoff. He was bullying, he was smug, he interrupted … I think he lost a lot of his message based on facial gestures.”

  1. 25 more days we can do this folks. Then we will see who is smiling

I felt Ryan did well to focus on his answers. After some searching, soul and psych lit, I discovered a genetic disorder that fits Biden to a T, or shall I say, O! Angelman’s Syndrome perfectly describes Biden’s behavior. Its scary, to say nothing short of appropriate hilarity, that Biden has leadership caliber. More like a grade school dork.

    • Naaah, you’re giving the VPOS too much leeway.

If he actually has Angelman’s Syndrome (AS) , he would have shown symptoms of it before last night’s debate. Biden also doesn’t display any speech impairment, which is one of the symptoms of AS. Nor does he suffer from development delay (he’s a fully matured, fully formed man), nor movement or balance disorder of spastic gait & tremulous limbs.

The VPOS’s smirches, grins, and verbal interruptions were calculated and contrived to mock, disrupt and distract Ryan.

  3. Agree. Ryan did keep his cool. Imagine trying to talk and keeping your train of thought while, sitting right to you, your debate opponent is constantly smirking and grinning insanely. If I were Ryan, I would turn to Biden and ask him “Mr. Vice President, you’re laughing. What is so funny about our country’s economy and foreign policy?”

  4. VP (?) Joe Biden put on a disgraceful display of classless disrespect and rudeness concerning his opponent Congressman Paul Ryan and regarding subjects that were of no laughing matter. He was a disgrace for the world to witness firsthand and unbecoming for someone holding the position of vice president. I am convinced he knew the questions beforehand otherwise wouldn’t have been so cocky with his sardonic grin and inappropriate laughter in an attempt to distract and anger his opponent; the subject matter being discussed was no laughing matter!! Moderator Martha Raddatz had no business moderating this debate given a conflict of interest–that being her close and personal association with the Obamas. Her obvious bias was open on display while giving Biden preferential treatment. Besides interrupting Ryan several times, she allowed Biden to interrupt Ryan 82 times. She demonstrated having given control of the debate to the relentless laughing hyena. I am not at all surprised by such dirty tactics used by liberals these days.

  5. I think Biden’s display last night perfectly encapsulated the entire Democrat party. A complete bunch of classless idiots!

  6. Biden’s sneers, hyena like grinning and the total lack of respect for his opponent made him come across as an embarrasment to the Democratic party. Ryan certainly gave him enough rope to hang himself. Martha Raddatz was a terrible moderator. She interrupted Ryan as much as Biden did and always before the point he was trying to make. Whatever you say about Ryan he didn’t interrupt Biden. This whole debate proved that the jackass is the right symbol for the Democratic party.

  7. I have a slightly different take on last night’s debate than most, but then again, I’m not wired like most people.

I was very disappointed with Paul Ryan.

He had numerous opportunities to step on Obiden’s neck and make him squeal, and he didn’t do it.

He got in some jabs, but he needed to floor the idiot.

I know a VP debate has little, if anything to do with the outcome of an election, but Ryan needed to knock Obiden out of the park, and it just didn’t happen.

And he should have told both Rattatz and Biden to stop interrupting early on.

  8. I have participated in numerous debates and did my service in the legal profession for 32 years. As a judge, I listened to attorneys battle with each other and make their points. I have never, never observed anyone ever act so disrespectful or contemptuous as Biden did last night. If I had ever heard or observed someone behave like that in a hearing, I would have thrown them out. I also blame the moderator for allowing Biden to interrupt Ryan on 82 occasions with verbal assaults, smirking and incessant laughing. However, letting Biden go on allowed the American people to understand how repulsive and idiotic Biden really is: clearly, Biden showed the world that he never was, nor is up to the task of ever serving as a president, let alone the vice-president of the United States of America, given his horrible behavior. I also finally understand why the king chose Biden to be his vice-presidential running mate: he actually lies better than the king and is so vicious, that he will say anything to succeed.

Last night Biden said that his Catholic faith is his life: no practicing Catholic whose faith means something to them would ever behave like that or lie like he did.

Ryan should have attacked Biden more than he did. However, we watched Ryan keep his cool, his presence of mind, state the facts with confidence and passion, in spite of the most difficult and inappropriate forum that he had to participate in last night. And I agree with Dr. Eowyn, I would have asked Biden what was so funny and why does he find it necessary to smirk?

Finally, the environmental forum for the debate was completely ridiculous. The moderator was the individual who was looked at and spoken to; the American people should be the focus of the answers and give-and-take in a debate, like the last debate. This forum failed miserably.

  9. “The Joker”, oh yes. That name was the first thing that came to mind of last night that described Biden. It had to be tough for Ryan and I agree–I’m glad he didn’t stoop to Biden’s level. As far as Biden’s Catholic faith being his life, “By their fruits you shall know them.”, so if Biden’s faith was his life he would NEVER be able to support the policies of Obama and the “Demon-rats”. All Biden really showed any one last night was his A**.
