Do Political Ads Change Voter Opinion?

I’m very impatient with all internet ads.  I find them extremely annoying, especially the ones that automatically start playing, just because I clicked on the site.  I rarely watch TV.   When I do, I’ll turn off  TV or change the channel if a barrage of annoying PSAs and repetitious commercials start playing.  I don’t think I’m unique.  I think most people find TV and internet ads, particularly political ads, a big turnoff.  What do you think?

  1. IMHO, The only winners of campaign ads are the companies that make them and the broadcasters/websites that charge fees to give them air time. All those millions of campaign dollars are poured into ads most people find annoying.

I include those annoying PSAs that play repetively; especially the “It Gets Better” LGBT/ anti-bullying PSA. A local “How-to” channel I sometimes watch plays the same two PSAs over and over through an hour’s programming. I’m sure their main demographic is in the 65-death age group. Yeesh!

  2. Like this? Aired only once, crushed Goldwater.

    • I remember that one very well. Times have certainly changed since the 60s haven’t they? Now we’re bombarded 24/7. I doubt that ad would have the same impact today in the age of TIVO and Fast Forward.

      • And our attention spans have deteriorated. If it doesn’t grab our attention in the first 5-10 seconds, we press fast forward or click it out. I’m probably as bad as anyone for that. I’ve tried to watch the award-winning movie, Gladiator, 3 times. Within 15 minutes viewing, I lose interest and turn it off every time.

  3. Great idea for a poll, LTG! Based on the results so far (32 votes total), political campaigns are wasting their money! LOL

  4. an idea planted in a campaign ad can sway a percentage of the voting public. there are way too many walking, talking and breathing idiots think about all of the morons who voted for obama. and now the big thing obama brings up is hey romney is really really rich. and the democrats being basically brain dead say yeah i can’t vote for a rich guy and this is the same dolt who supported kerrey (or however the heck you spell his name) who also was a rich guy..

I notice that EVERY election cycle uses variations on the same theme… THIS time, it REALLY IS the most important election EVER in history of EVERYTHING… Vote for me or the world is LOST. Vote. For. Me. Or. We. Will. All. DIE!!! (and puppies too!)
