Obama administration to outlaw shotguns

Second Amendment alert!

Jack Minor of The Greeley Gazette writes:

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms is taking a rare step of allowing public comments prior to issuing a decision on a study that could result in outlawing certain types of shotguns currently available to citizens.

The ATF completed a study regarding the importability of certain shotguns. The basis for a possible ban is based on a loosely defined “Sporting Purpose” test. Using the vague definition almost all pump-action and semi-automatic shotguns could be banned as they are all capable of accepting a magazine, box or tube capable of holding more than 5 rounds. Other characteristics determined to be “military” by the ATF can also be used as a basis for a ban.

Ironically, many shotguns with “military” features are currently being used in shooting competitions held by the USPSA, IDPA and IPSC. The rules could also result in obscure regulations where an individual would be unsure if he is violating them or not.

Dudley Brown, Executive Director of Rocky Mountain Gun Owners, said if the ATF succeeds with the banning of tactical shotguns it “will be the most dangerous interpretation of the 1968 Gun Control Act ever envisioned and will outlaw thousands of perfectly legitimate home defense shotguns.”

The ATF is currently allowing public comments on the study until the end of the month. Those wishing to express concerns about the study can send an email to shotgunstudy@atf.gov

Uh-oh. I see another list in the making.

  4. I think it’s time for the Governmnet and ATF, FBI, CIA, and this Chickenshit president to stay out of the law abiding citizens business! Do what they are supposed to do and that is to QUIT WASTING our money on such shit as this banning anything, we happen to know what is good for us, you dumb bastards! You damn sure don’t or we wouldn’t be $16 Trillon in debt, so you do your job and we will do ours. If we need an answer to something we’ll ask somebody that knows something and that ain’t you all, cause you all don’t know Jack Shit!! Semper Fi.

  5. I see another spike in gun sales. And harder to find ammo, tough as it is already.

  6. Obama has insulted the Polish Holocaust Victims. Now he is using the same “Ignorance” to insult our desire to live as a free people.
Mister Ignorant Scumbag In Chief believes himself to be perfect at all times. Now that is “Ignorance”. Ignorance of the laws of our land is no excuse. Rember your Oath, Mister, President Obama.

    Semper Fidelis.

Hard Corps, all the way, every day.

  7. FABULOUS!! {smirk}

  8. Oh, great, another administrative “ruling” without consent of the governed or due process of law than can deprive of our rights, liberty and property on the whim and prejudices of some bureaucrat.

    • Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t we get into a to-do with Britain and form our own country over stuff like that?

  9. Is there anyone out there that wants to hesitate still on the word “COMMUNISM”??????

  10. Can’t say “COMMUNISM”, or they will come kick your door in.

  11. More fuel for Skippy’s desire to get rid of our Second Amendment right….major shootings today in Seattle after a deadly Memorial Day weekend. Six people shot today in Seattle, 4 dead. We are at 19 homicides so far this year, way ahead of only 3 compared to this time last year.

  12. I would stay the hell away from that ATF website.

    Well away.

  13. Look at the number of shootings in Chicago over the Memorial Day weekend – it’s staggering – and in a place where gun ownership is outlawed, I do believe.

  14. Chicago likes it that way. The theory is that, “No Innocents will remain standing”. Another government experiment on how to “create the Perfect Criminal society”.
Really sick, but we all must understand, “Criminals hate the Innocent”.

Calling a hunting shotgun a “military” weapon is silly. BUT… More and deadlier guns are not the answer…

Last night in Minneapolis, a citizen with a licensed, concealed handgun was robbed with his own gun, having failed in his attempt to draw on the mugger. The mugger was later caught, but the gun was not recovered. Another gun, legally obtained, that winds up in criminal hands.

Thirty years ago, my Great Uncle, a strong gun advocate and owner of over a dozen guns, was robbed by three girls in his WV home with one of his own guns. Most of his guns were taken, and he was pistol-whipped into unconsciousness. His guns were never recovered.

Remember, it might not be wise to advocate for the ownership of any gun you wouldn’t want to have to face out on the street or in your home, in the hands of a violent crackhead…

Cocoa, I’m serious about not wanting to face a gun that someone got from a legal owner… About once a year we take a gun from an admit to my detox unit… Once it was while I was working. Twice in my 12 years it was people brought by police who failed to search them properly. These men (and once a woman) are ALL high on drugs and alcohol when they come in… It might be hard to imagine how scary it is to see a gun pulled out of an angry and drunken man’s pants unless you’ve been there… To write this off as one of Ed’s silly liberal rants is totally missing the point…

  18. Good observation, Grouchy! The discrepancy between the dates of the Greeley article and comments is probably because no one read the Greeley until Libertarian Review republished Jack Minor’s article on its site. FOTM reader Eyes Wide Shut saw it on Libertarian Review and e-mailed it to FOTM.

  19. Excellent question.

  20. Is it unconstitutional to protect human life? I totally support Obama’s decision on the gun matters.
