Meet the nine-year-old nudist who says he loves everything about being naked
Daily Mail: The nudist lifestyle is an alternative and somewhat bewildering choice to most people but few consider how living sans-clothing affects children.
For nine-year-old Alex Reamer of Loxahatchee, Florida, the liberating fashion choice is one that he values highly. Aside from the small issue of pesky mosquitoes.
Residing in a nudist community just outside Palm Beach with his parents and brother, the fair-haired boy spends most days like any other – playing video games, riding his bike and playing with friends – albeit, naked.
In an in-depth exploration into the lives of nudists, ABC’s 20/20: Xtreme Parents follows the day-to-day routine of the Reamer family giving them the opportunity to demystify what they believe is a perfectly commendable way of life.
But the open-minded parents agreed only to take part in the filming if the final edit did not blur out their private parts. ‘It sends the wrong message,’ explains Sandra Reamer. ‘It says that nudity is bad.’
Her son Alex sees nothing weird about being naked around the clock either. In fact, the home-schooled child loves it so much that he is loathe to leave the private campground in which they live for visits that will inevitably require him to wear clothes.
The family decided to move to the 40-acre ‘naturist family resort’, Sunsport Gardens, six years ago to join the 70 residents who currently live there, but only after both their sons had agreed they were willing.
Alex’s older brother, Bud, is not however an advocate for his family’s love of going bare. Though he still lives in his parents’ RV, he always wears clothes and is planning to leave Sunsport and join the Army when he turns 18. The 15-year-old thinks nudism is ‘weird’ and says wearing clothes ‘is just more comfortable.’
For those who might agree with Bud about the unconventionality of the decision and question the motives of people who opt to go nudist and live among others, Frank and Sandra Reamer are quick to respond.
‘People have a misconception,’ says Mr Reamer. ‘They think this is about sex, and it isn’t. My wife and I are in a monogamous relationship. We live with our children. I’ve seen them all nude, they’ve all seen me nude.‘
Florida’s Department of Children and Families explained to ABC that nudism is not illegal even when it comes to children and Sunsport maintians that they do background checks on all visitors so no leering strangers can enter. The camp’s owner, Morley Schloss adds that the authorities have never found any ‘wrongdoing’ at the grounds either.
The Reamers believe that living as nudists only has a positive impact on the children. Mrs Reamer expanded: ‘As far as body image, the kids are seeing all different kinds of people, and they’re seeing that people can be different. There is less judgment.‘
And it would seem their nine-year old agrees: ‘I just like to go nude.’
Wow…first of all, I NEVER wanted/want to see my parents naked, EVER.
Secondly, clothes were made for many reasons – modesty, hygiene, and to keep us protected from the climate. Can you imagine how much they must spend on sunscreen living in Florida? I can see some melanoma in their future.
Lastly, there must be a better way to teach you child to accept body images than running around naked all the time!

If you have never spent any time in a resort, Please don’t judge. After the first few days you will become pretty bored with the sight of old, fat, crippled, skinny, or plain looking people that reside or relax there, these are not Hollywood models that are there to titilate, just people like you and me that enjoy the sun, air and freedom of being with people that enjoy the same thing.
We don’t watch each other, we watch out for each other, even strangers are protected from the once in a while charactor that thinks this is a sex club of some kind, as soon as one of these people are spotted, out the door they go, I have never been to a club that this wasnt the rule, get out of line and you get escorted to the gate.
Children, you bet we watch out for them, the fastest way to the gate is to even look wrong at one, you can’t trust anybody at Walmart or any public park, but you can bet your boots your kids are safe at any resort you go to.
so if you dont want to see your 60 year old parents naked, so be it, its your choice, but don’t condemn those of us that don’t care about that fobia that you really don’t know anything about.
Your post has GOT to be a joke and by the way it’s “phobia,” NOT “fobia.”
A phobia is an UN-justified fear, where this IS WRONG and disgusting. My little brother is eight years old and we shielded his eyes at a part in a movie where a young woman was swimming and her naked butt showed through the water, because we were protecting him from seeing something sexual at that age.
The Bible says it’s a sin for people of certain close enough relation to uncover the nakedness of the other. That’s because it’s a big step in the process of having sex with them!
This
wow…I just want to thank you…I hadn’t ever considered that…
I googled and discovered that I had only remembered one
one instance (Noah) of uncovering and had glossed over the
others …it wasn’t a Sage worthy study,but I’m humbled and
proud that I have sisters of wisdom , virtue and modesty to
remind me that ‘girls are different’….which society has tried to
desensitize us to. Of course, men without self-restraint act like
the Muslims who are no better than jackals when preying upon
women.
Hey, shi-ri,
You’re so big on “choice.” Did those kids of the couple in DCG’s post have a “choice” to live or not live in a nudist camp when their parents first brought them there?
If you read the article, yes they did have a choice. How many children get a choice over being brought up in a particular religion?
Under-age children have a choice? What are you smoking?
There’s a reason why EVERY culture and civilization in human history — even the most primitive tribes living in jungles or the Australian outback — clothe themselves, even if it’s a mere loin cloth? Your “naturism”, whether British or otherwise, is a fiction.
Like I’d let my 9 year old decide how to live their life. Parent is more than a noun, it’s a verb too.
That’s the beauty of adulthood – freedom to make your own choices.
Too many hide behind their fig-leafs…and I admit to a bit of envy
when Milo runs free and naked (I take his collar off) but I’d have to
say, having spent much more time at the beach than your average
guy where little is left to the imagination, that fashion is in the eye of
the beholder…and that I’m just fine with Gods original design ….
but that splinters and burns on ones posterior never ends well
I’ll judge when a MOM chooses to be naked around her 9 and 15 year old sons. It’s not sexual? Ok…it’s not normal, that’s for sure.
I don’t care the age of your parents – 25, 35, or 55 – you never want to see them naked. That’s not a “fobia”.
What about the elder son? Why do you think he can’t wait to get out of there & go into the Army? Must not be so liberating for him…
Genisis 1:25 And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.
I believe that we do not necessarily know the original languages used to write the bible, therefore do not know the exact meaning of each and every word. It’s the people’s screwed up ideas of nudity that make it shameful, NOT the nudity in and of itself. The human body is a beautiful creation and is in no way shameful. Society has so skewered the view of it that yes, now we have to ‘cover up’ because of all the perverted BS that mankind has centered around the naked body. Ridiculous. and sad. Some ppl are more modest than others and there is not one thing wrong with that either. It is whatever makes you as an individual comfortable. I personally would not ever go anywhere without bottoms on as I don’t want to leave anything behind on chairs etc, or anything to enter into my delicate lady parts, however, if anyone else wants to go it without, more power to ya. Good day everyone…

Woops one more thing, perhaps the scriptures that sage brush was referring to was speaking of a young woman who was baring her body with the INTENT of causing sexual arousal. THAT is different. I really don’t know as I am not a bible scholar, but it is a thought. Because that would be wrong. Simply being nude is not wrong. Sin is about intent. not simply being.
I am also curious what happens when someone needs help bathing etc as an adult because they are crippled etc. Happened to a friend of mine, male as it were, and I bathed him routinely. Not a single thing sexual about helping someone be clean when they can’t do it themselves. Everyone is so quick to judge, you think God wants us to leave adults incapable of washing their ‘private’ parts dirty to the point of infectious disease to ‘avoid’ the ‘sinfulness’ of their God-awful ‘nakedness’? Get a grip folks. nudity is not disgusting.
Get a grip. There’s a big difference between aiding someone and running around naked in front of your kids.
Nudity is not shameful. What is shameful is a lack of modesty and believing this lifestyle will help your child. The poor kid will not fit in within a normal society. What job us going to let him be naked?
Seeing the disabled person’s nakedness is a necessary evil if it’s not a case of two married people, and would ideally be performed by a member of the same sex instead of opposite sex. I can’t believe anybody would defend this nudist crap, it’s so obviously immoral and trashy.
disgusting. out of respect, for others cover-up. I have no desire to see their parts, simply assuming others want to look at your private parts is inconsiderate.unsanitary and just rude. I feel sorry for these kids.
I could never sit in a chair at a nudist colony, gross. And no, it’s not healthy. Skin is covered for protection. I’m so tired of people trying to normalize the clearly abnormal crap they do!
There’s a good reason why people should wear clothes. First of all, for any adult man or woman, their modesty is very important. It keeps people in their proper place before God. Secondly, who wants to see other peoples private parts. Thirdly, allowing children in a place like that breaks down their sense of modesty and will eventually lead to sexual dysfunction.
This has absolutely nothing to do with bathing people who are crippled or who cannot help themselves; the two are not the same thing.
These are the kind of fruitcakes I used to see up in Topanga Canyon or Malibu Canyon…I can’t remember…it was too far back. These people are perverts.
Have you seen the price of clothes lately?
Over $65 for a pair of Levis?
LOL – Can you blame parents for wanting to save a few bucks?
I mean, light bulbs are getting really expensive these days, and no one wants their naked children fumbling around in the dark and getting lost, lest they wind up on Facebook.
Okay, that was partial sarcasm.
Some are actually intelligent enough to know which parts, too.

Adam and Eve were not ashamed until they sinned. Before that God created them with no clothing, why? Nudity in and of itself is not shameful it’s the intent that caused it to be shameful. They sinned and thus felt ashamed.
So the logical implication of your comment is that nudists have not sinned?
Your comment shows that you’ve completely missed my point. It is a universal phenomenon, in every human culture throughout history, that humans clothe ourselves. Even the most primitive peoples living in New Guinea, the Amazon forests, or the Australian outback, wear loin cloths. Does that tell you something?
Plus every person is born into sin. Saying our intent is just does not mean a thing. Two sins: one; ignoring the bible and going nude anyway, two; saying screw you god I have my lust under control. Study, and I mean really study the bible. You’ll find you can’t handle sin without god when your allowing other sins to just walk in on your life.
