Give them an inch and they’ll take a yard.
The Big Brother-Nanny State is now encroaching on yet another of our freedoms. Led by lard-butt Moochelle, government is now the Food Nazi, telling the American people what we can or cannot eat.
Audrey Hudson writes for Human Events, June 21, 2011, that the Nanny State is going after your frosty flakes:
Tony the Tiger, some NASCAR drivers and cookie-selling Girl Scouts will be out of a job unless grocery manufacturers agree to reinvent a vast array of their products to satisfy the Obama administration’s food police.
Either retool the recipes to contain certain levels of sugar, sodium and fats, or no more advertising and marketing to tots and teenagers, say several federal regulatory agencies.
The same goes for restaurants.
[...] Food industries are in an uproar over the proposal written by the Federal Trade Commission, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Food and Drug Administration and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
“The most disturbing aspect of this interagency working group is, after it imposes multibillions of dollars in restrictions on the food industry, there is no evidence of any impact on the scourge of childhood obesity,” said Dan Jaffe, executive vice president of the Association of National Advertisers.
The “Interagency Working Group on Food Marketed to Children, Preliminary Proposed Nutrition Principles to Guide Industry Self-Regulation Efforts” says it is voluntary, but industry officials say the intent is clear: Do it, or else.
[...] “The Interagency working group recommends that the food industry, through voluntary self-regulatory efforts, make significant improvements in the nutritional quality of foods marketed to children and adolescents ages 2 to 17 years,” the proposal says. “By the year 2016, all food products within the categories most heavily marketed directly to children should meet two basic nutrition principles. Such foods should be formulated to … make a meaningful contribution to a healthful diet and minimize the content of nutrients that could have a negative impact on health and weight.”
[...] Beth Johnson, a dietician for Food Directions in Maryland, said many of the foods targeted in this proposal are the same foods approved by the federal government for the WIC nutrition program for women, infants and children. “This doesn’t make any sense whatsoever,” Johnson said. “It’s not going to do anything to help with obesity. These are decisions I want to make for my kids. These should not be government decisions.”
The Food Nazi marches on.
On Jan. 30, a preschooler at West Hoke Elementary School in Raeford, N.C., was forced to eat three chicken nuggets for lunch because a state employee told her the lunch her mother packed was not nutritious. The girl’s turkey and cheese sandwich, banana, potato chips and apple juice did not meet U.S. Department of Agriculture guidelines. After consuming the approved nuggets, she was sent home with her mom-packed lunch and a bill from the school for $1.25.
The Division of Child Development and Early Education at the Department of Health and Human Services requires all lunches served in pre-kindergarten programs — including in-home day-care centers — to meet USDA guidelines. That means lunches must consist of one serving of meat, one serving of milk, one serving of grain, and two servings of fruit or vegetables, even if the lunches are brought from home.
But if the chicken nuggets at West Hoke Elementary School are anything like McDonald’s Chicken McNuggets, they are far inferior to the mom-packed home lunch. From Wikipedia:
The 2004 documentary Super Size Me states “McDonald’s Chicken McNuggets were originally made from old chickens no longer able to lay eggs. These chickens are stripped down to the bone, and then ‘ground up’ into a chicken mash, then combined with a variety of stabilizers and preservatives, pressed into familiar shapes, breaded and deep fried, freeze dried, and then shipped to a McDonald’s near you”. Super Size Me also alleged inclusion of chemicals such as tertiary butylhydroquinone (a phenolic antioxidant used as a chemical preservative), polydimethylsiloxane (an anti-foaming agent), and other ingredients not used by a typical home cook. This was recently restated by CNN. June 201d author of What to Eat, says the tertiary butylhydroquinone and dimethylpolysiloxane in McNuggets probably pose no health risks. As a general rule, though, she advocates not eating any food with an ingredient you can’t pronounce.

Terry spent his High School years in Hoke County, NC (town of Raeford) and we know the area well. This is outrageous!!! Moochelle and her kids have been busted several times eating at McDonalds and other fast food joints. What a hypocrit! Y’all can Kiss My Grits. I’m eatin’ whatever I want to.
What the NC school needs is not so much a food police squad, it needs a grammar police squad. The memo from the principal is peppered with grammatical errors. I pity the children attending this school. They have adults obsessed with their food intake and the highest official in the school cannot craft a grammatically correct memo to parents.

So what do they propose, semen McNuggets?
whoa – Rich! You are so bad!
Sage, ya beat me to it. That was funny..LOL
Can’t hep meself.
It seems to me that the sack lunch CONFORMED: 2- grains/
2 slices of whole-wheat bread,2-fruits /banana AND apple juice,
vegetable/potato(e)* chips , 1 dairy/cheese. What’s it say about
those who aren’t bright enough to follow their own guidelines.
I’m sure the apple juice was closer than being a fruit than the
nuggets were to being meat.
*I was taught that it was potato or potatoe/tomato or tomatoe …
depending on you preference.Of course I looked it up in the
class Webster’s to be sure , being wary even in my youth.
Dan – the banana actually counts as two fruits, and the apple juice as one. So, the child’s lunch exceeded the requirements.
I’m not big on juices. I mean maybe for kids they are OK, but I keep an eye on my sugar it only 84 and 90 is max, till someone changes target…Again!!!, Point is Dr. said that is sugar city.
Your Doc has a point, but the sugar in fruit juice metabolizes differently than something like a juice drink, which has added corn syrup. As long as it is 100% juice, it does count as a fruit.
As an aside – did you know that the average Medical Doctor receives only 2 hours of of nutrition training? The “heart smart” diet is actually killing people. By eliminating fats, people are unable to metabolize Vitamin D – which is your first line of defense against cancer and disease. So, even if the person swallows D3 supplements, if they aren’t taken with a fat, such as olive oil, it is worthless.
I find the average doctor’s knowledge of human metabolism and nutrition, deplorable. They never fail to prescribe, and the medicating of children now is frightening. Treating what may be a food allergy with tranquilizers is criminal, IMO.

Sage, I had a feeling it was diff somehow. Docs know how to prescribe meds, well most. Few try and prevent. Then again peeps are not good at doing whats good for them. Glad fat is good for ya..LOL
Do twinkies count.
LOL – no Steve – Twinkies don’t count! ROFL
I thought a twinkie was a vegetable, it’s made of wheat and sugar cane, those are both plants, also it can count as a dairy because it has the cream (yum-yum) inside… almost a perfect food, so enjoy yourself Steve…
What does ROFL stand for?
Rolling on floor laughing
Thank you! Sorry I could not figure it out!
Miranda, you’ll be sorry you asked. Here is a list of every internet acronym.
While most (99%) I’ve never heard of, some are scary as they are what teens use to thwart parents. Little booger heads. Have fun.
http://www.gaarde.org/acronyms/
and you coud add ROFL MAO
Sage, I like Kheta’s answer better .
I’ve always believed Chocolate cake was good to. You have your wheat and flour group, eggs milk for dairy, chocolate for CHOCOLATE!!!!
group. Yup Cake and twinkies. And twinkies have a 100 yr shelf life . Dang How can I be doomsday prepping without at least a garage full of twinkies. My Wife will understand if I put her car into hot Fla Heat..NOT!
Sage, I really was bad. I went past the twinkies and bought a pack. Ahh.LOL I’m serious. Man they melt your teeth as they are so sweet.
A single Twinkie contains 150 calories and 2.5 grams of saturated fat, representing 13% of the recommended daily intake of saturated fat based on a 2,000 calorie diet.
In January 2012, Twinkie manufacturer Hostess filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.Twinkie sales for the year ended December 25, 2011 were 36 million packages, down almost 2% from a year earlier. Hostess said customers have migrated to healthier foods. Hostess hopes to avoid liquidation and attract new investors to remain in business.
Eowyn, noooooooooooo, not the Twinkie’s too.
The real problem was that it wasn’t a SCHOOL lunch she had.
This has gone on for several years in the North Carolina Pre-K at the school where our daughter taught second grade for ten years. Her best friend’s child was a very picky eater and mom had lots of trouble complying. I believe that she sent bags of carrots, fruits, knowing that she would never touch them just to satisfy those checking lunches. This counrty is so upside-down.
more obama administration insanity.
Anon, a classic. I worked in NY at the time and saw him( Soup Nazi) just about everyday at his store.Man he hated the parody. It was more like a store front. Maybe 6 people could be in store at a time. The line would go around the block. Pint of Chicken Noodle, while very good was like 8 bucks.
Thank you, Dr. Eowyn, for this wonderful post showing the continuing big-brother, idiotic mentality of this administration! IDIOTS!
the “Wookie” needs to mind her own business!!
This is the STUPIDEST thing I have ever read!
My son eats at least three bowls of frosted flakes a day! Do these DUMB BUTTS not realize that the kids need exercise?I mean, we went to McDonalds today and they have taken the playland out and replaced it with dang video games! If the parents would actually spend time w/their child instead of letting the TV do the babysitting.
My pediatrician actually told me that the child would crave whatever their body needs if you home cook their meals. We go thru peanut butter and honey stages, macaroni and chz phases, grilled chz….etc. I actually cook every night though, they get their veggie and fruit too. Just like a pregnant woman having cravings, she is replenishing whatever vitamins her body is needing. I think MooCow needs to worry a little bit more about her girls. They need attention more than my child does! Go back to your own dang farm woman!
HELLO?? I guess I cannot call them DUMB….when I cannot even spell the stupid word! Knock, knock……Anybody HOME? Obviously not tonite!
Miranda, why what ever do you mean can’t spell.
The Spelling Good Fairy.
Thank Spelling Fairy…..now it looks like my elevator goes to the top and the doors actually open!
Damn it! Obviously the doors are still broke! Shoot a monkey!
{meant Thank you above}
I think MooCow (Love it) needs to worry about the back 40.
(Her Butt)
MooCow seems to have a case of the “BIG HEAD” & a “BIG BUTT” to moove it.
Amen Brother! MooCow is the word my little girl uses to describe cattle!
More of the regulations NC licensed, er ah, Stalinized, childhood centers must kneel to at http://www.nclcca.org/displaycommon.cfm?an=1&subarticlenbr=526
The downplay by the local preschool and friends misses the principle being illustrated. In a way, this is reverse class warfare in the food consumption arena. It is forcing a diet, (food enslavement) according to the plantation owner. Yes, Barry is his father’s son, himself a slave owner.
BTW, it is a hilarious exposure of the world’s largest natal cleft!! ROFLMAO
Well, once again .. Queen Moochelle and her Nazi Police could care less what people eat. This is strictly about our ever growing monster govt conditioning the youth and teaching them that the govt knows what is best for them, because BIG FAT Nanny Govt ‘s main objective is to have as much control and power over the masses as possible ! Period.
I know something about nutrition, and I will testify that Sage is 150% correct here, so you don’t need my two cents worth, maybe a dime w/inflation! Did you folks know that FAR more people die every year from the WRONG Rx, than from ALL firearms murders, etc? Maybe we should ban MDs….
Joseph: An IRG (Health Grades) found that almost 250,000 patients studied from 2003 and 2005 were killed by preventable problems. In light of today’s expanded clientele, especially patients beyond age 65, and the vicious cycle of reduced reimbursements vis a vis the need to survive as an institution/practitioner, the risks for suffering a wrong seem to be even higher. Emphases on safety have mitigated, even prevented, many mishaps. I believe a majority of the medical professionals at fault for such, have altered their practices, either due to personal experiences or those REPORTED by their peers, because they truly wish to honor “do no harm”. As a health care practitioner for over 30 years, and as the healing recipient of recent surgery where I experienced excellent care (Yes, I did have “inside” information. And, yes, I am demanding about expertise), I am satisfied, indeed grateful, to be a survivor and complication-free. I encourage people to ask a lot of questions, for the informed patient usually ends up being the most carefully managed. And when problems arise, if your provider won’t listen to you, seek a second, educated opinion quickly.
The “system” has its own methods for weeding out those who threaten its existence. Sometimes its the patient who triggers it into action.
WOW, and “Thank you!” for this superb back-up. I’ll send it on to others who will re-post ASAP. The North American medical system is in deep trouble due to its over-reliance on drugs, high tech stuff, and far too much profit on the part of major players. We need MDs to take more careful histories, to really listen and look before reaching for an Rx pad, IM humble O.
i think i remember reading somewhere either at this blog or michelle malkin that moocow sits on the board of a food conglomerate something like consolidated foods and with her pull has managed to get food contracts for them across the country. eat my food i will make more money my food is best for you
