Last month, Obama killed the job-producing Keystone XL Pipeline that, if allowed to proceed, would deliver 700,000 barrels a day of crude oil from Alberta’s oil sands to refineries along the Gulf of Mexico.
Joe Miller reports for WorldNetDaily that Obama’s war against U.S. energy independence continues unabated this month with a foreign-aid program that directly threatens Alaska’s sovereign territory. The Obama administration is giving away seven strategic, resource-laden Alaskan islands to the Russians.
Miller should know because he is an Alaskan. More than that, this is the same Joe Miller who was the 2010 Republican nominee for the U.S. Senate from Alaska. A West Point graduate, decorated combat veteran from the first Gulf War, and former judge, Miller holds a law degree from Yale and an advanced economics degree from the University of Alaska.

“The seven endangered islands in the Arctic Ocean and Bering Sea include one the size of Rhode Island and Delaware combined. The Russians are also to get the tens of thousands of square miles of oil-rich seabeds surrounding the islands. The Department of Interior estimates billions of barrels of oil are at stake.
The State Department has undertaken the giveaway in the guise of a maritime boundary agreement between Alaska and Siberia. Astoundingly, our federal government itself drew the line to put these seven Alaskan islands on the Russian side. But as an executive agreement, it could be reversed with the stroke of a pen by President Obama or Secretary Clinton.
The agreement was negotiated in total secrecy. The state of Alaska was not allowed to participate in the negotiations, nor was the public given any opportunity for comment. This is despite the fact the Alaska Legislature has passed resolutions of opposition – but the State Department doesn’t seem to care.
The imperiled Arctic Ocean islands include Wrangell, Bennett, Jeannette and Henrietta. Wrangell became American in 1881 with the landing of the U.S. Revenue Marine ship Thomas Corwin. The landing party included the famed naturalist John Muir. It is 3,000 square miles in size.
Northwest of Wrangell are the DeLong Islands, named for George Washington DeLong, the captain of USS Jeannette. Also in 1881, he discovered and claimed these three islands for the United States. He named them for the voyage co-sponsor, New York City newspaper publisher James Gordon Bennett. The ship’s crew received a hero’s welcome back in Washington, and Congress awarded them gold medals.
In the Bering Sea at the far west end of the Aleutian chain are Copper Island, Sea Lion Rock and Sea Otter Rock. They were ceded to the U.S. in Seward’s 1867 treaty with Russia.
Now is the time for the Obama administration to stand up for U.S. and Alaskan rights and invaluable resources. The State Department’s maritime agreement is a loser – it gives us nothing in return for giving up Alaska’s sovereign territory and invaluable resources. We won the Cold War and should start acting like it.
The Obama administration must stop the giveaway immediately.

Everyone with knowledge of this pending action should be accountable. The phones at the White House comment line (202-456-1111) should be melted tomorrow morning and for the length of time needed to have Obama reverse this outrageous agreement. We should be mindful of his pre-election promise that he wouldn’t mind if gas went to $7.00 per gallong. But this is not just about oil, it is about actions without consultation that impact our sovereignty, and security. Americans, not just Alaskans, should be in the streets protesting this assault. More Carter / Clinton legacies: Wrangel has been settled by Russians since the 1920s, and America officially recognized it as Russian in 1977 and 1994. It wasn’t included in the Alaska purchase but it was claimed by a U.S. revenue cutter about 15 years later.
This article by Joe Miller conveniently neglects to mention all of the Republican involvement in the secret negotiations, signed agreements, support for the giveaway, etc. What about Kissinger, Ford, Reagan, G.H.W. Bush, James Baker, who were all in office while these secret negotiations and signed agreements were supposedly transpiring? Miller doesn’t give a history of the situation because it doesn’t suit his agenda. Miller starts off blaming Obama in the title of his article, “Obama Giveaway.” He blames him for postponing Keystone XL, or “effectively killed the pipeline” as he says. He states Obama has an “apparent war” against U.S. energy independence and “Obama’s State Department is giving away seven ….. Alaskan islands.” Then Miller omits pertinent information as to when and how and most importantly, WHO negotiated agreements, boundaries, etc concerning these islands. Who is Miller insinuating committed these dastardly deeds if not Obama and his administration? This controversy has been going on for about 35 years, starting when Kissinger negotiated with Russia starting in January of 1977. I looked at several maps and all of them placed all of these islands on the Russian side of the maritime boundary that we agreed to years ago. None of these islands were included in the Alaska purchase, read the treaty. All are in close proximity to the Russian shore, far away from our Alaskan mainland. Just because some American landed on any of the islands well over 100 years ago and “claimed” them for the U.S., doesn’t mean they belong to us. Do you seriously believe Russia didn’t consider them their property already? They are all just off their mainland! Since the negotiations were supposedly secret, we don’t know what we might have gotten in return, if anything. After researching this situation at great length, I see no hope of claiming possession of these islands. I couldn’t find a single map that showed any of these islands belonging to Alaska or the United States. I couldn’t find a government website that listed any of these islands as U.S. possessions. All the maps showed these islands as Russian property. I don’t believe we inhabit a single one of these islands in any way. The only info I could find on Americans inhabiting any island was 13 or so people about 90 years ago. The Russians removed them and I can’t find any info suggesting the U.S. complained about an invasion on our soil. If Bush 1, Bush 2 and Dick “Halliburton” Cheney, all oilmen, couldn’t find a way to claim these islands while they were in office, I see no hope, because I’d bet money they looked into it. This is just another wild goose chase, made to enrage those who just need any reason to vilify President Obama.

None of the above contradicts what Joe Miller wrote in his op-ed piece for WorldNetDaily. In fact Miller wrote “This is not a new issue. Miller’s op-ed tries to alert the American people to this giveaway so that we can tell our reps in Congress to void this agreement with Russia. If Miller can be faulted, it is for not being detailed enough on how past administrations, esp. that of Bush the Elder, were complicit.
To conclude, Miller did not misrepresent the facts. I stand by his op-ed.

You guys haven’t seen anything yet ….wait until John Kerry brings the the Law Of The Sea Treaty to the house floor for a vote. That document will basically give all offshore assets to a UN sanctioned party to decide who will be able to mine any resources and they will charge those people a tax. so all revenues the US would make from a oil company mining oil offshore but within the two hundred mile limit will lose all taxes and sovereignty to those assets.
The history of the LOST treaty as it iscalled goes back to the Reagan years. Reagan was totally against it stating that it would give the sovereignty of the nation away. Since then it has come up several times (Bush, Clinton, Bush jr years) only to be shelved again….Bush Jr made that document a priority and thank god it didn’t get passed congress. What we have here is a government that seems to be backdooring our constitution to make it easier for a New World Order. We all should be writing our Congressmen and Senators to plead them not to ratify it.

Upon doing a little research, I do see where there was an agreement written in 1977. However, I have to wonder why does just about every President since the 90′s have their names attached to this agreement. Why is this an ongoing discussion between America and Russia.
This Controversy gives the appearance that Russia is bringing the issue up with each and every Administration that comes into office.
Furthermore, My Thought is if Russia felt or knew for fact without doubt that they had the rights to these islands, Russia would not even be discussing it with America and asking America to rewrite the Maritime Boundries. The fact that Russia is requesting America to make the change would prompt the question of Russia’s doubt of ownership.
If Russia knew for fact that these territories rightfully belonged to Russia and America was encroaching on their territory, Wouldn’t Russia be consulting or taking the issue up with The World Court or U.N. to resolve the issue once and for all?
