Santorum wins big in 3 states!

Mitt Romney and the GOP establishment have better hold their water ’cause a Mitt presidential nomination is not a done deal.

Last night, true conservative Rick Santorum who actually had won the Iowa caucuses, swept the GOP caucuses and primaries in three states — Minnesota, Colorado, and Missouri!

The Minnesota result marked the first time so far in the 2012 Republican race that Romney did not come in first or second. Romney also lost in two states – Colorado and Minnesota – that he had won in his failed 2008 bid for the Republican presidential nomination.

Steve Holland reports for Reuters, Feb. 8, 2012:

“Former U.S. senator Rick Santorum rejuvenated his presidential hopes on Tuesday with a shocking sweep of the three nominating contests in Colorado, Minnesota and Missouri, dealing a blow to wounded front-runner Mitt Romney.

Even though Romney still holds strong advantages in financing and organization, his campaign will now have to refocus to fight back the challenge from the surging conservative Santorum.

Backed by a wealthy “Super PAC” that pays for attack ads against rivals, Romney had excelled in major contests thus far in the race. After big wins in Nevada and Florida in the previous week, he did little campaigning in Minnesota and Missouri and had been expected to win easily in Colorado.

Until Tuesday, Santorum had won only one of the first five Republican contests in the state-by-state battle for the Republican nomination to face President Barack Obama in the November 6 election.”

Here are the results of the GOP contests in the three states:

Colorado Caucuses (36 delegates; with 99% of precincts reporting):

  1. Rick Santorum: 40%
  2. Mitt Romney: 35%
  3. Newt Gingrich: 13%
  4. Ron Paul: 12%

Missouri Primary (52 delegates; with 99% of precincts reporting):

  1. Rick Santorum: 55%
  2. Mitt Romney: 25%
  3. Ron Paul: 12%
  4. Uncommitted: 4%

Minnesota Caucuses (40 delegates; with 95% of precincts reporting):

  1. Rick Santorum: 45%
  2. Ron Paul: 27%
  3. Mitt Romney: 17%
  4. Newt Gingrich: 11%

Santorum is a devout Catholic who had been in a battle with Gingrich to become the conservative alternative to RINO Romney. Santorum’s victories give heart to social conservatives fighting battles of abortion, gay marriage and contraception in recent days.

Tuesday’s strong showing by Santorum came as divisive social issues came to the forefront again in U.S. politics. Earlier in the day, a U.S. appeals court ruled that California’s ban on gay marriage violated the U.S. Constitution in a case expected to lead to a showdown in the Supreme Court.

In addition, U.S. Roman Catholic bishops have slammed the Obama administration for a new regulation that would require health insurance to include birth control. The bishops contend the policy infringes on religious liberty because the church does not condone birth control of any kind.

Santorum took some jabs at Obama, focusing in particular on the new contraception rule. He accused the president of trying to “impose his secular values on the people of this country.”

“I don’t stand here to claim to be the conservative alternative to Mitt Romney, I stand here to be the conservative alternative to Barack Obama,” he added to cheers from the crowd.

The startling results in Colorado, Minnesota and Missouri raised fresh doubts about whether Romney, long considered the most likely Republican nominee, can win over the broad swathe of Republican voters, particularly the most conservative ones who are the most unenthusiastic toward him.

But Santorum’s campaign is far behind Romney in fund-raising and in support by the Republican establishment. Santorum is not a wealthy man like Mitt, nor does he have a billionaire SuperPAC donor like Newt. Despite that, Santorum has managed to win 4 of 8 GOP contests to date (Mitt won 3; Newt won 1; and Ron has won none).

So if you want a real conservative to run against Obama this November, donate some dollars to Rick Santorum! Click here.

The next major Republican nominating contests are the Arizona and Michigan primaries on February 28, while Maine wraps up its caucuses this Saturday.

  1. This is great news as I posted some Santorum info on my FB page. Sadly we all know Mittens with the help of the media and sadly some so called conservatives will rail against Santorum. Even if Santorum don’t get the nod those so called conservatives or Republicans better watch their political backs.

Especially those commentators for which I am hugely disappointment in. I don’t mind anyone taking sides (hey everyone has a favorite) but when you start pushing falsehoods (Ann Coulter stating how great Romney care turned out) you just lost the rest of your brownie points (the first with GoProud) now this.

To Ann Coulter and the other commentators whose been shoving “electability” down our throats and telling us to tuck our social issues in our pants we will not forget this, even if Romney gets the nod we will not forget this and I do believe you know this that is why you are pushing so hard. I guess you figure if your going to sell your soul you might as well get some change back for your efforts.

  2. YES!!! Here in the Show-Me State, I did my part! This is ‘not’ a done deal yet…
We have to keep praying for Rick Santorum to win in other states! :)

  3. Praise God!!!

“Praise ye the Lord. Praise, O ye servants of the Lord, praise the name of the Lord.” Psalm 113:1

“Sing unto God, sing praises to His name: extol Him that rideth upon the heavens by His name JAH, and rejoice before Him.”
    Psalm 68:4

  4. I hope the repube establishment is spinning on its eyebrows, spitting nails, with smoke coming out of their ears.

Just maybe Mittens RINOmney (Obama Lite) isn’t so inevitable, after all.

  5. Yo, Mitt,
Ever hear the phrase “Money can’t buy you love”?
    Well you’re fixin to!

  6. What is Santorum’s stance on the current war brewing in Syria and Iran?
Is he all for war with Russia and China?
Has he ever mentioned the reinstatement of Glass Steagall?
Does he want to have Obama impeached for violating the Constitution or advise a cabinet member to invoke the 25th Amendment Section 4 to have Obama relieved of his post on the grounds of mental incapacity?
This list is the litmus test right now.
The high ground is to have the moral courage to tell the oligarchs that their number is up. They have plundered and looted our country for too long now.
They have funded groups to advance unbiblical practices which they know will undermine the character of our once upon a time Judeo Christian society. If you get the oligarchs by shutting down their monetary system with the standard imposed upon their merchant banking gambling parlor, then yyou have got the advocates for “alternative” lifestyles” with no sugar daddies any more. So, if he can step up to the plate, and hand all these bankers their pink slips, and get Congress to utter credit and open another Nationa Bank to issue that credit in the form of money through for viable long term projects to employ our millions of out of work men and women, and educate our youth, and get a science driver program going to work of research that will safeguard our lives from natural disasters and get us into space to start mining for Helium three etc., then yes, he’s our man.

    • I would like to know the same Alice!! Santorum lost his Senate seat by 18%, an unheard of precedence. Since he failed to keep his Senate position, he decided to run for President. I like the guy, but from the beginning, something just told me that he doesn’t have the experience needed. I loved that fact that he put Mitt in his place with this last election in 3 states!!!!

      • Hi there! Where do any of them stand on these questions? They are running to replace a president that is a usurper, and who is running around with a social security number that was issued to someone in 1830 and who is dead, and the GA judge says that because e verify didn’t specifically say that Obama was using it illegally, it only said it was issued in 1830 or something and that the person who had that number died in the middle of the last century, that it wasn’t evidence that there is something up with the Obama identity claims. None of these guys are riding on this case in GA, and that is pretty weird. I realise that Santorum is doing his best but that doesn’t include the subjects that need addressing right away, that are relative to the is Obama legally allowed to run again question, and if not, why is he still president? That would change the election process completely, we are looking at four candidates who appear to accept that Obama is entitled to be president and entitled to violate the Constitution and is bailout out the oligarchs who are headquartered on foreign soil. This is going over the heads of almost everyone and they are off on a tangent that is not going to fix things right.

  7. In the beginning I liked him, but because of the media thought he didn’t have a shot. I have never been comfortable with Romney or Gingrich either though. I think a lot of people feel the same way. You cannot ignore the timing of everything happening right now. I believe everything happens for a reason in the Lord’s own timing. People said it would take a miracle for Santorum to be able to win the nomination. Maybe the timing of Obama’s interference with religion and the timing of these 3 GOP Primaries were not just coincidences after all. Who knows though. I am sure we will learn where Santorum stands on many issues in the next couple of debates. The media has finally taken notice.

  8. Let me clarify, When I said “who knows” I meant I dont know what the outcome of the GOP primary would be. I do not believe in coincidence…I KNOW that everything happens for a reason. Good grief, sometimes my elevator goes to the top, but the dang doors don’t open! I swear!
