I purchased Sera, the lovebird, two years ago after my original lovebird, the blue-and-charcoal-grey plumed Raphi died. I don’t have a digital photo of Raphi, but this is what he looked like:
Parrots are notoriously difficult to sex. Experts say the only sure way to determine the gender of a parrot is to do a DNA test, which of course I never did.
But my intuition told me that Raphi was a boy and Sera is a girl.
Yesterday, while cleaning her cage, I noticed that she’s managed to tear a hole in the back of her hanging nest. I peeked in and was very surprised to see four big eggs.
Yup. Sera’s a girl!
