Census Bureau Admits Homosexuals Less Than 1% of U.S. Households

The 2010 census vastly over-estimated the number of same-sex (i.e., homosexual) households, the U.S. Census Bureau admitted last week.

The plain truth is this:

Homosexuals comprise less than 1% of American households.

And yet this tiny numerical minority now controls what is being taught in our public schools, what we see on TV and in movies, what we hear in pop music, state courts, and increasingly, national and state government policies. At the same time, we are not being told by our schools, media, and government the dangerous sexual practices of gays and those practices’ terrible consequences.

Officials Admit U.S. Census Inflated Figures for Same-Sex Households by Over 160%

NOM Blog – September 30, 2011

The Los Angeles Times reports that the U.S. Census Bureau, in their initial reports, vastly overestimated the number of same-sex households in the United States:

The 2010 census overestimated the number of households with same-sex married couples by more than 160%, the U.S. Census Bureau announced Tuesday.

The 2010 census first reported that there were 349,377 same-sex married-couple households and 552,620 same-sex unmarried-partner households across the country.

On Tuesday officials said they had revised the count to 131,729 same-sex married-couple[s] and 514,735 same-sex unmarried-partner households.

In other words, the actual number of same-sex households in America is tiny – only 0.773%.

Of course, these revised national numbers also change the landscape on the state level.

In Minnesota for instance, the StarTribune reports:

The original census data counted 4,325 same-sex couples who identified themselves as married and living together in Minnesota — three times higher than the revised figure [~1,300]. The original census data also counted 13,718 same-sex couples living together in Minnesota, regardless of marital status, while the revised estimate is now only 10,207.

And in New Jersey, the Star-Ledger reports:

“…the U.S. Census Bureau said a statistical snafu inflated earlier totals, and there are actually fewer gay and lesbian couples living together in the Garden State than previously estimated.

The Census now says there were 16,875 same-sex couples living together in 2010, down from original estimate of 24,112 released two months ago. Notably, the new figures drop the number of married same-sex couples living together in New Jersey to 4,447 down from nearly 11,000.”

Or, take a look at California, via the Sacramento Bee:

In California, the Census Bureau said, 0.726 percent of households are same-sex couples, markedly lower than the 2000 census figure for the state.

Again, less than one percent.

  1. For a group that is such a small percentage of the population, they sure do stir up a lot of trouble.

  2. I doubt that the movement will be stopped ever, but it should be relegated to its true area of importance. To me, 0%, to a homosexual, 100%, so its a matter of who is being asked and who is answering. However, if we are both Americans, we should agree that any movement affecting our young adversely should be curtailed.

  3. There is no way that the 160% inequity was not deliberate! How is it possible to be off by such a percentage! This was and is deliberate! Our Lord said not to call evil, good, and good, evil! It is as simple as that! It is the homosexual “sexual” activities that are sinful! The pictures that Dr. Eowyn provided tell so much! What comes to mind is anger, confusion, disordered, cruel, mean and horrible!

    • You’re right, Joan. How can the Census Bureau make such a gross mistake, over-estimating the # of homosexual households by 160%?
And who are the individuals in the Bureau responsible for this “mistake”? Why are they not fired?

    • Joan,

This was done to inflate the political clout of homosexuals in an effort to scare politicians into going along with their often radical lefty agenda.

It’s the same reason retired wealthy people who live in paid-for million dollar homes wind up on the poverty list.

      It’s all about the numbers.

Actually, I’m surprised the Census Bureau even made this admission.

  4. Dave,
I completely agree with you. This was done as a way to promote the homosexual lifestyle and their sexual activities-to make these activities “normal” and “acceptable,” and woe to those individuals who take issue with this kind of lifestyle as they are to be perceived as “homophobic” and prejudiced hypocrites. I guess the Census Bureau had to make the admission because of the numbers. Or, maybe there are some really honest people in the Census Bureau!

  5. I’m shocked they admitted their error. Wonder what made them admit to it…

  6. All we want is the same rights other married couples have, and an end to bulling (which goes beyond sexuality) in schools. I am not sure how this is a leftist agenda or how it is an agenda. How does stopping bullying adversly affect anyone? The photo’s in this article are from a parade, even in a non-gay parade people dress up in costumes and wear strange makeup. We do not walk around looking like that in our day to day life we are just like you. We go to work, pay taxes, raise families and just try to go about our business peacefully. Yes, there are some GLBT individuals who take things too far but most of us just want to live our own lives and are not bothering anyone.

    • Chris, you will find that there are many Christians here that do not believe in homosexual marriage. You do have the same right as heterosexuals – you can marry anyone of the opposite sex that you choose (albiet a family member).

I’m sure that is not the right you want. But we, as Christians, do defend our beliefs in traditional marriage. Homosexuals are granted civil unions in many states. I do believe in civil unions you should have rights to your partner that give you access to hospital visitations, medical treatment, etc.

As for bullying, we all want that to end! And it doesn’t just affect the LGBT community. You should have seen the bullying I took personally on this site the other night! And I experienced it as a child (due to personal characteristics) as my niece (similar in characteristics to me) experiences it as well. I understand it is worse today because of the Internet. We do not support bullying in any shape or form, even if we don’t believe in their lifestyle.
