Creation Week – 6 Days- or Millions of Years? Day 2

Water, water everywhere.  And quite a bit of it is drinkable.  It is necessary for life, for even the most  simple  bacteria require water molecules within their Periplasmic space to function.

And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.  And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament:  and it was so. And God called the firmament Heaven.  And the evening and the morning were the second day.   Genesis 1: 6-8

What is the firmament?  Mentioned five  times in this passage – it should not be overlooked.  If we think about modern insulated windows, which trap inert gases, such as Argon,  between the panes, it should not be too hard to understand.

Air in cavity between glass panes of insulated glass is usually dried by desiccant filled inside space bars prior to sealing. As insulated glass technology develops, Instead of air, dry nitrogen is used to further improve thermal conductivity. Nowadays, less conductive and slower-moving inert gases such as argon and krypton are extensively used instead. Inert gas moves or transfers hot or cold through the space at a much slower rate than air. These inert gases provide optimum insulation performances. They further reduce heat and sound transfer from one side of the double glazed unit to the other. http://xinology.com:888/Glass-Processing-Equipments-Supplies-Consumables/glass-insulating/inert-gas-filling-system/introduction.html

It is known that Venus and Saturn’s moon – Titus, both have dense canopies.  Various scientists have made postulations worthy of considering in the light of Scripture.  It won’t serve to detail them all here, but they all share one common theme.  At a point in earth’s history – there was a dense layer of water surrounding the earth –   nothing like the atmosphere we have now  – but very like what we see in modern window and greenhouse applications.   This firmament, with billions and billions  of tons of water (in vapor form) trapped between the layers,   would have made the earth’s climate much like a tropical greenhouse, with  consistent temperature globally.

Besides the obvious benefit of consistent warm temperature, there are some other things to ponder about God’s “very good” creation.   Just these  few qualities would be a boon to all life:

  1. increased air pressure
  2. stronger magnetic field
  3. slightly higher carbon dioxide and oxygen
  4. warmer soil
  5. warmer water

And the results  of these ideal conditions?

  1. longer life spans
  2. minimal disease
  3. increased stamina
  4. gigantic plant and animal specimens of some plant and animal species that continue to grow for their entire life span

But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.  John 4: 14

  1. This is simply fascinating, Sage….

  2. I’ve heard similar Bible studies about this. You haven’t touched on it yet; but, there was no rain before the judgement known as “the flood” in Noah’s time. The moisture in the firmament provided all that was needed. And IT WAS GOOD!

    • Don’t worry Grannie – it’s coming! LOL

      • Remember, Sage, I’m in Seattle aka Rain City. LOL

  3. …and the same amount of water is still in the world since Creation, no matter what the Warmists say…God bless all.

  4. There is no mention in the Bible of the firmament disappearing. In fact, we find numerous references to the “re’kiah” throughout the Bible.
So I think that this scientific interpretation of the verse is incorrect.

    • I have a Torah in front of me – with English translation. The translation of ra’quia changes with context. Just as the English heaven can mean the expanse of the sky – or Shamayim – the habitation of God.

It is clear from Scripture that it never rained, before the flood; and that a mist went up from the ground and watered the whole earth. (Genesis 2:6) Counting back the genealogies, it would not have rained from 4004 B.C. to 2348 B.C. That’s a long time with no precipitation. The mist could only provide enough moisture for the vegetation in a closed system.

      • “It is clear from Scripture that it never rained, before the flood”
Hmm, I dont know why you think so. Verse 2:6 only describes what happened in Eden, which was a special type of environment.

“The translation of ra’quia changes with context.”
Ezekiel mentioning the rakiah is not a good proof of the actual scientific reality because it’s not being used to tell us physical data. However, it does show that the people still believed there was such a thing as a firmament in existence. He says “it looked like the rakiah”. That tells me that just saying the word “rakiah” would allow people to get a picture of what it looked like. Now, people might have called something “the firmament” when it actually wasn’t, because it no longer existed. But it doesnt say anywhere that the rakiah was removed, and that it acted as a greenhouse covering for 2000 years like you are suggesting. I would think that this was a major change that took place after the Flood, and the Bible would tell us about it and maybe even why God made it happen like it does for the Flood itself.
On the other hand it doesnt say it wasn’t it wasnt removed either, so you’re theory isn’t definitely wrong. I just think it’s weak.

        • Since you won’t give specific Scripture references, I will supply them.

“. . .for the Lord God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground. 6 But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground.” Genesis 2:5b-6

“11 In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened. 12 And the rain was upon the earth forty days and forty nights.” Genesis 7:11-12

“4 Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding. ” Job 38:4
“9 When I made the cloud the garment thereof, and thick darkness a swaddlingband for it.” Job 38:9

          5. Tropical animals found fossilized in Siberia, Greenland, and Alaska

          Worldwide Evidence for Flood-Ice Catastrophe

          1. Frozen-drowned mammoths in Siberia
          2. Ice dumps 3 miles deep at North Magnetic Pole
          3. Ice dumps 5,000 feet thick below sea level in Antarctica

          5. Volcanic ash intermixed with ice 5,000 feet below sea level in Antarctica

By people – you are referring to Moses, who wrote the Book of Genesis as it was dictated to him – by God. And if you discount Moses – then you must also discount Jesus Christ, Who said -

” Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.” Luke 16:29

“And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, He expounded unto them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.” Luke 24:27

          • sage,

itchemeyer’s IP address 66.87.83.196 is from that same vague spot near the Holderman Cemetery in Kansas — as Legion (aka Tom). Nuff said.

            • Please Dr Eowyn, we are trying to have a civilized conversation here. You can go yell down at people who don’t agree with you on your own posts.

              • Dear Mr. Itchemeyer,

What a curious mind you have. So prone to scapegoating and demonizing, characterizing my informing sagebrush, one of my writers, about your curious Kansas IP address, as “yelling down at people.” And, once again, instead of referring to your lone self, you represent yourself as the anonymous and multitudinous “people” and “everyone” — just as you did in your comment to me on the Hell Pizza thread.

Your switching to a different IP address, this time in Baltimore, Maryland, simply gets that address banned here as well. Your access to an anonymized IP address near the Holdeman Cemetery in Kansas and to this other address in Baltimore speaks to an enormous organizational capacity. No wonder you keep referring to yourself as “people” !!!

                • Thank you, Eowyn. :D
