Arizona Gov. Brewer Betrays Birthers

This just makes me want to puke.

Arizona Governor Jan Brewer just vetoed the “birther bill” passed by the state’s legislature. All their work is now wasted.

So they got to Brewer, too? (See “Wayne Madsen Says Obama Wants Him Dead) What. Did they threaten to kill her dog? She is beyond despicable….

Here’s a petition to recall Gov. Brewer, but only citizens of Arizona can sign it. (H/t tina)

‘Birther bill’ vetoed by Arizona governor

By the CNN Wire Staff

April 19, 2011

(CNN) — Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer vetoed a bill late Monday that would have required President Barack Obama and other presidential candidates to prove they were American citizens, born in the United States, before their names could have been placed on the state ballot.

The so-called “birther bill” got final approval in the state House last week. Now that Brewer, a Republican, has vetoed it, the bill will not become law unless legislators vote to override her veto.

“As a former Secretary of State, I do not support designating one person as a gatekeeper to the ballot for a candidate, which could lead to arbitrary or politically-motivated decisions,” the governor wrote in a letter addressed to the Arizona House speaker.

Under the measure, if there were any dispute about whether a candidate had proved he or she had been born in the United States, Arizona’s secretary of state would have the final say.

“This measure creates significant new problems while failing to do anything constructive for Arizona,” she added.

  1. I absolutely agree. All she’s done is now worthless.

Someone did a lot of heavy leaning…look what they’re doing with Wayne Madsen.

    • Yup, dire warnings of chaos in the streets, collapse of civilization during our economic crisis, etc. … didn’t happen when Nixon resigned, but left/liberals will pull any strings to play upon the sense of duty in responsible adults with poltical arm-twisting (here too) to get their way.

  2. I am overwhelmed and extremely disappointed by Gov. Janet Brewer’s decision to veto a very reasonable presidential eligibility bill, but apparently she doesn’t feel there should be any requirements for a presidential candidate, while leaving the door open for fraud and breaches of national security and other abuses. After all the work that had gone into this bill, it is our governor who believes a presidential candidate does not require proof beyond someone’s word of confirmation or computerized-generated document in lieu of a genuine birth certificate that provides proof with dates, times and signatures. I thought Arizona would be a leader concerning proof of eligibility but Governor Brewer’s veto says loud and clear that no proof should be required.

  3. Yes, I am extremely disappointed as well…….it seems Jan just reached her tipping point and that “someone got to her”.
My husband is convinced that Obama is the “AntiChrist” or has some other magical powers.
Personally, I think people are weak.
Obviously Jan Brewer was strong for a while, locally, but as she sadly said, this issue does not directly affect Arizona….which isn’t true as Arizona is a State in America and wha taffects the whole affects a part.
The unconstitutionality of a person who is not a Natural Born Citizen occupying the White House remains and now another way into the castle must be found.
As a Gatekeeper, Jan Brewer failed, finally fell.
I’m certain her email box is full and her phone is ringing off the hook, and not in a good way.
This battle was lost but the war rages on.

  4. Never forget that repubelican office holders are still part of the emerging elite ruling class, and at the end of the day, when push has come to shove, they will circle the wagons to protect their own, even if it means rolling over like a $5 whore.

Just look at the budget deal they just passed in D.C. a week and a half ago. John Boehner & Co. rolled over for even less than $5.

  5. I could not believe what I was hearing when this came over lastnight. My feeling I immediately had was she had been threatened, because this did not sound like Jan Brewer. I found something lastnight that did say her son had been threatened. I sent her an email lastnight asking her this question, told her she has done a very good job up until now. I asked her to please step down ,let a man step in that isn’t afraid of these thugs. If anyone out there is reading this that lives in Arizona, they have a recall petition you can sign right now! This needs to be nipped in the bud A.S.A.P.. The state legislature can vote to override her veto. Remember the soros puppet McCain is right there also.

  6. BTW: Those flies in that pic are the wrong color.

    They should be green.

  7. I just read a message Mrs. Brewer left on her FB page give it a read (Below) it’s interesting.

I vetoed HB2177 yesterday and I would like to take a moment to explain why I made that decision.
The bill would have granted sole power to the secretary of state, a county recorder or a city clerk to arbitrarily remove any candidate from the ballot in any federal, state or local election. As a former secretary of state, I do not support designating one person, at their own discretion, as the gatekeeper to determine who can and cannot appear on the ballot, which could lead to arbitrary or politically-motivated decisions in future elections.

Also, the bill would require candidates for President – regardless of gender – to submit various records, including baptismal or circumcision records. I hope that it’s obvious why these type of requirements could be problematic.

I believe the bill created significant new problems for our elections and granted too much power to either a state or local election official who could arbitrarily prohibit anyone from appearing on the ballot in any federal, state or local election.

As Governor of Arizona, I do not have line-item veto authority for non-appropriation bills, such as this bill. Although many of you may be disappointed in my decision, it was the right thing to do based on the consequences of the entire bill.

I still don’t like the fact that she scrubbed the bill but in a sense I can see her dilemma that there may be some “unintended consequences” if passed.

  8. Gotta agree with Will on this one. Baptismal and circumcision records? I also agree with the issues around allowing the Sec State to be the sole determinate on eligibility. That has politics written all over it.

I’ve seen some commentary that the legislature has the votes to overturn the veto. If Brewer knows this, than she did the right thing politically, especially since she needs help from the Feds with border security. I know they haven’t been helpful to date, but if she signed this bill, surely Reno II would suddenly devoid of funds for Arizona. My guess is they’ll tone down the requirements and alter the authority aspect and re-vote on it.

Personally, I think the GOP presidential candidates will force this issue over the next year. Michelle Bachman has said she’ll provide her birth certificate at the first GOP debate. Trump, who’s clearly a short-lived candidate, has provided his. I could see Hermain Cain providing his. Eventually, failing to provide your BC will come off as a de facto defense of Obama; something no GOP candidate can win on.

Obama, on the other hand, is either really cunning politically, or in some serious trouble. If he’s got his BC, he ca wipe out the GOP and insure re-election just by showing it at the right time. Independents will crush us if he can do that. If he steadfastly refuses, after so many GOP candidates have shown theirs, he’ll really look like he’s hiding something. Indies will not support that.

I know it’s not a popular position here, but I haven’t taken sides on this issue mostly because I really hope he’s a citizen. The consequences of that not being the case would be catastrophic on both the world and domestic stages. Every law he’s signed will be null and void. The only people to make out will be litigators filing suits in every arena imaginable. Every international treaty and agreement will be vacated and military actions could be considered illegal in a world court. Not that I care about any Hague conference, but the damage to our military and standing in the world might leave us unable to support Israel, or turn away Iran, NorKo, China, and Russia. The turmoil left in this wake will be very difficult to overcome. I’d rather, for the sake of all this, just vote him out in ’12.

    • Yep BK, I think she did it for political reasons as well…border protection and maybe some kind of Obamacare waiver down the road.

We may never know the absolute truth as you can’t trust a word coming out of most politicians mouths these days….

  10. I am disappointed in Jan Brewer after her previous trail blazing and courageous actions. What’s the real reason she vetoed this law?
