USA Today Poll On Gun Rights

Altar to death in backyard of Jared Lee Loughner home (NY Post photo)

With tiresome predictability, once again the Left/Dems/MSM are exploiting by politicizing a tragedy.

A psychopath — who worships at a self-made altar of Hitler, Marx, and Death Metal — commits mass murder in a Tucson shopping mall. And the Left once again reflexively clamor for gun control.

Even before this latest tragedy, Attorney General Eric Holder has already made known he does not believe the 2nd Amendment gives individuals the right to bear arms.

USA Today has a poll on gun rights. The poll asks “Does the Second Amendment give individuals the right to bear arms?”

I just voted. As of 4:34am, west coast time, the results are:

Yes: 97%

No: 2%

Undecided: 1%

Total # of votes: 7,924,393

  1. 97% still. At least there is only 1% of wishy washy no opinion. Sounds pretty resounding till the left sniff out the poll and stampede..So Sorry, too late. ;)

  2. Patriot Angel/Barb

Still 97%. What about the right to bear arms is confusing? If someone wants to commit a murder, they will find a way to do it. I don’t want people taking away my right to defend myself.

I have read where criminals were interviewed and they just don’t go places where people can legally defend themselves with firearms. They will mostly go where they can get by with their crimes. It is unfair to take this right away from law abiding citizens. I say hooray for Arizona and their limited to no gun laws. Criminals will go and get them anyway however they can or use other methods to commit their crimes!

  3. You have a right to defend yourself and that is the purpose of this constitutional right.

  5. Yeah, still 97%…until moveon.org finds the survey…

  6. Right to bear arms? Damn straight! Why? Violent nuts like Loughner… then come the various tryannical cretins our Founders also warned us about, too.

  7. this issue, the right to bear arms, will no doubt be twisted and maligned until the msm and the liberal left find a way to get our weapons. unarmed they will then really begin to impose their self serving righteous agenda.

    • True, like more laws would actually stop criminals or crazy folk who don’t obey them anyway.

  8. Nothing brings out the commie gun-grabbers quite like a nationally reported shooting.

  9. Have left/libtards realized that gun sales have probably gone up because of this loon and why that might be? (Oh, scratch that… on their planet, law abiding people owning guns are dangerous oppressors who incite criminals and crazy people into being violent and must be disarmed.)

    • In fact, sales of GLOCKs went way up in Arizona after the shooting.

      • Not to be ghoulish, but obviously Glocks are effective.

  10. Again, we have the right to self-defense. It is very, very simple. It is also noteworthy that the sales went up in Arizona after the shooting!

  11. The poll is still up, and still at 97%. That is out of 8 million votes..wow

  12. “have the left/libtards realized that gun sales…”
Anon, the libs I know (and myself) have no problem with law abiding citizens exercising their 2nd amendment rights. The libtards I know, including myself, do see a problem with certain weapon systems being available to the “general population” this includes full auto, armor piercing, RPG’s, Abrams Tanks, and high capacity magazines.(remember the bank robbers in Los Angeles several years ago who had body armor, full auto weapons, and armor piercing rounds?)And it’s not a good idea to have a can or two of Ricin lying around, the Feds REALLY have a problem with Ricin.
Every politically active “libtard” has heard the arguement from our right wing friends about having weapons required to “change” the govt. if necessary. The Gov’t, however, has NBC weapons, (and a butt load of agents) which pretty much cancel out Glocks and even full auto Uzis and AK’s (in the long run).
AS far as personal safety goes, I sometimes work in Overtown, which is a ghetto in Miami. When I have to work there, I limit my work to daylight hrs., and if I feel there is a problem, I can get a police escort. The police car is a big deterrent. The reason I don’t get a carry permit and go alone is simple, if something happens and escalates out of control, the cops are pros, and can get back up real fast.Plus, if I’m not fixated on security, I’m free to do my job.
Most of the problems in Overtown stem from drugs and people with severe mental problems, not simple racism. When you see a white face there, they are either a lost tourist , wacked out on drugs,or looking for drugs.
I think we all can agree that Glock sales went up because some fear a ban in process. Ain’t gonna happen. The NRA is too powerful .We may, however, see regulations on magazine capacities, which I don’t view as a bad thing.
I don’t own a gun, I don’t see the need for me to own one; but if you feel the need, you have the right.Pretty simple thing.
    Cao.

    • erinyes, keep you cotton picken hands off my M1Abrams. ;) You may come at this from the left, but you are pretty sane. We can at least have these discussions.
this includes full auto, armor piercing, RPG’s, Abrams Tanks, and high capacity magazines. Other then high capacity mags, none other are available to general population.
I did not know the glock had a 33 round mag. That might be overkill. My mags gold 13. That’s fine in my book.
I don’t know ricin got in the conversation, but I’m not to fond of it either.
I would not say having the weapons is for changing the Gov. No they are there to keep the Gov from turning us into a gulag. Every great massacre of the populace always came after the disarming of the citizens. Viet Nam, Russia, Germany..etc.
You know how many gun owners and guns in USA.
      From Wiki

Number of guns and gun owners in USA.
Most estimates range between 39% and 50% of US households having at least one gun(that’s about 43-55 million households). The estimates for the number of privately owned guns range from 190 million to 300 million. Removed those that skew the stats for their own purposes the best estimates are about 45% or 52 million of American households owning 260 million guns).
there are about 80 million gun owners in America with a combining total of 258 million guns

That’s a lot and if push came to shove I don’t care what weapons the Gov can bring. They are not going to defeat 80 million people. See That’s our ins policy. We lose the 2nd amendment we are dead. I pray we never found out. I also believe a lot of Gov, soldiers , FBI would be joining the citizens.
There are like 10,000 gun laws on books. Maybe if they enforced them we’d be OKAY. Every where guns have been outlawed..Crime shoots up. Any where responsible citizens are armed crime goes down. Just a fact. I think if I’m reading it correctly AZ. sounds even a little to lax for me. It said they do not need a permit to carry. Maybe that is to loose. How many atrocities have been committed by law abiding licence to carry citizens. Bad guys will always get guns..And if need be I will do what I have to , to protect my family. I have been trained in fire arms over many years. And thank God I have not had to shoot anyone, cause I tell ya even if I’m right that would be tough taking a life. But if it’s Boogy Badguy Or my family….

    • Most folk of the left/liberal persuasion, present company excepted obviously, are not as sensible and seem to honestly believe that private ownership of firearms drives an “arms race” that makes criminals use guns where they would’ve raped and robbed people with knives and intimidation instead.

  13. You guys know this poll is nearly 4 years old. It was posted on USA Today’s website in November of 2005

  14. ” Where is the prince who can so afford to cover the ground with troops, that 10,000 men decending from the clouds, could not , in a great many places, wreak a great deal of havoc before a force of suffecient size could be gathered to repell them?”
Benjamin Franklin had the Airborne Division down pat years ago.. a Militia IS the individuals who make it.

  15. Kyle…yes, but this is my first chance to speak up.. :)

  16. here’s the complete quote, courtosy cousin Iain..
Iain Morrison ‎”Five thousand balloons, capable of raising two men each, could not cost more than five ships of the line; and where is the prince who can afford so to cover his country with troops for its defense as that 10,000 men descending from the clouds might not in many places do an infinite deal of mischief before a force could be brought together to repel them?” ~ Benjamin Franklin

    • Thank you, Clifford. Welcome to the fellowship.
